Subject: Development on 10310 N. Foothill Boulevard - 15 unit apartment complex
Dear City Council Members,
I am a city of Cupertino resident and have concerns over the recent developments happening on Foothill Blvd,
South of 280. I want to make sure that you know that I see `managed change' as a very positive process and I
see some of these projects being a detriment to the quality of life in Cupertino. I do look to my city council
members to be responsible for proactively managing the growth of Cupertino.
The areas of concern are the two housing/apartment projects that are going in within a mile of each other on
Foothill Blvd. I will, however, only address the first one between Alpine and Vista Knoll which does not seem
to fit in.with the landscape of the area. First of all, this is going to be a 15 unit apartment complex. The area on
Alpine is more of a duplex construction. Second, the entrance and exit of this piece of land would be difficult
especially with the quarry trucks (18 wheelers) and line of site for the drivers to see potential hazards. Third,
how will the infrastructure will be impacted (water, schools, and traffic to name a few). Fourthly, the residents
that are located on Vista Knoll will have their quality of life greatly impacted along with the quality of the air
while construction is happening, and potentially the cars coming and going basically in their backyards when
the complex is built. The apartments will look directly into these back yards. I have already seen one of these
houses up for sale as the residents did not want to deal with huge inconvenience—this is a shame as they had
kids. By the way, people in the apartment complexes are usually more transitory and do not get involved with
the community. I do not think that this project is protecting or enhancing the quality of life in Cupertino.
As I heard from a neighbor that the city may be looking at moving the school traffic from Vista Knoll down to
Starling and Ainsworth. Just to let you know—all of these streets are impacted at school times. I live on Creston
and have had my connecting street (Baxter) blocked by school traffic. Before making a decision, I hope that the
council members see for themselves the issues that are involved here. Reading the reports needs to be
counterbalanced with actually seeing the issues in person.
Again, I am hoping that the effect of the infrastructure—not just our roads - to our city is being evaluated.
Taking this one property, by itself; is not a huge impact, but combining all the projects along Foothill Blvd puts
a huge stress on the city services.
I hope we are not losing focus like `not seeing the forest for the trees'. I hope all the council members have
gone to look at all the projects in the area to see the issues that they cause for the long term residents.
Sincerely
Catherine Chamberlain
