Application No.(s): Applicant: Location: 14-EXC-99,21-ASA-99 Hossain Khaziri (Beacon Service Station) 10002 De Anza Boulevard (N .E. corner of DeAnza and Stevens Creek Boulevards) Sign exception for two ground signs and architectural review of all proposed signages Ms. Ciddy Wordell, City Planner, gave an overview of the case based upon the staff report. Two monument signs are being requested and that requires an exception. Staff supports that because there is an easement for public art at the corner. It appears that there is a sight distance issue related to the driveway, and that approval needs to be subject to the sight triangle. The monument sign may need to be moved back. There is also an exception needed for two canopy signs that are being proposed. Further a building sign is being proposed. Staff s interpretation of the Chevron station across the street was that two different signs, the building sign and a canopy sign, were allowed. Staff is not recommending two canopy signs because the back one is hidden by the front one and the front one is adequate. Comm. Harris asked questions regarding the height and the lettering of the canopy and the Food Mart signs. It was noted that the canopy sign is blocking the Food Mart sign since it is right in front of it. The owner and the applicant indicated that the signs could be raised or lowered a bit. Comm. Stevens felt that sign A (the second canopy sign) is superfluous, that by driving by, it would be the front sign that is seen. Comm. Harris agreed to just have one canopy sign and the Food Mart sign. Comm. Harris inquired about a car wash sign. She pointed out that if this was offered as a service to the community it should be noticeable. If the owner wanted to add a sign it could be added as an exception. Comm. Stevens felt that it would be successful without a sign. Since there was no request for a sign at this time, it could be brought up later if there was the need for more prominence. Comm. Harris asked about the color of the monument sign. The original color of the monument was cool gray, but in this case it will match the color ofthé building. This was suggested by Larry Cannon after his review. Comm. Stevens made a motion to approve 14-EXC-99 as proposed by staff and 21-ASA-99 with the condition subject to the standard sight triangle. Comm. Harris seconded the motion. The motion was approved. Comm. Harris adjourned the meeting at 6:15 pm. glagendas/hearings/drs3MS.OOmin
