Stelling Road, Cupertino, CA 95014 Approved Minutes CALL TO ORDER — 6:16pm PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL — Commissioners Present: Buvanesh, Smithline, Sriraman, Swamy, Trivedi, Yun Staff Present: Ganeles, Ordway MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING A) January 22, 2013 Commissioner Swamy motions to approve minutes. Commissioner Smithline seconds. Motion passes unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS a) Oral Andy Wong, Public Safety Commission; announcing start of two new commissioners, new staff liaison, asking what Teen Commission was planning for Walk One Week. Commission will not be taking part this year. b) Written NEW BUSINESS a) Big Bunny 5K Run, Jeff Ordway - Ordway gave brief summary of event, showing Teens not involved in race - Proposed to commission for assistance in reaching teens to come up with marketing plan to reach out, create plan with goals, specific actions, and budget Agreed in participating and created a subcommittee o Sub Committee Swamy, Trivedi, and Sriraman ■ Develop plan for February 26th meeting b) Coding Seminar, Monta Vista High School Students - Offering coding seminar at Library March 7th from 6 -9pm Wanted feedback on registration: Eventbrite vs. Open Session and outreach - Background on event, bringing in speaker, working with Library to offer possible monthly course, free class, promoting to high school students, want to encourage middle school c) Community Garden Information - Commissioner's Swamy and Buvan(2sh report of visit to garden on February 1 with Dave Jahns, he suggested three different options based on commitment level: • Have a garden as the Teen Commission • Volunteer to make signs [ paint compost bin • Oversee community garden, which individuals receive what - Decision would be to volunteer for a day /couple hours at the garden d) Intergenerational Event - Date of event is Monday March 17t" from 3;00- 4 :30pm at Senior Center - Activities will be charades /Pictionary, with snacks and discussions e) City Social - Promote event to the commissioners in Cupertino - Interacting and talking with commissioners in a relaxed environment - Use Teen Center, easy for drop in /out, casual event f) Art Event - Gradual event that will take place over a period of time versus one day - Patchwork poster, with trees at thE! Teen Center - Branches for different items g) 2014 YAC Attack - Clarification of event details and location OLD BUSINESS MISCELLANEOUS —NO ACTION REQUIRED a) Teen Center February Break Special HOUSE!: 2/17 -2/21, Monday- Friday, 12 -6pm b) Reminder YAC Attack March 1s' at Whisman Sports Center, Crittenden Middle School c) Scheduled Work Plan Presentation to City Council April 15t d) Teen Commission Recruitment ADJOURNMENT The Teen Commission adjourned at 8:24pm to REGULAR MEETING on Wednesday February 26th, 2014 at 6:15pm at Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room, 10185 North Stelling Road, Cupertino 95014.
