SUBJECT AND ISSUE
First reading of Ordinance No. 2008- ~;f : "An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of
Cupertino Amending Table 11.24.160 of the Cupertino Municipal Code Relating to Prohibition
of Parking During Certain. Hours, on the East Side of Mary Avenue, Between 2 A.M. and 5
A.M., Between a Point 340 Feet North of Stevens Creek Boulevard and a Point 1000 Feet South
of Lubec Street".
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The property manager for ACCO Management (Glenbrook Apartments) has requested that the
"No Parking 2A.M. to 5A.M." restriction currently in place along the east side of Mary Avenue
be.removed from the north entrance of Glenbrook Apartments, northward to the point where the
restriction currently ends, a distance of approximately 560 feet.
The original purpose of the restriction was to discourage overnight parking when Highway 85
ended at Stevens Creek Boulevard. Highway 85 now continues past Stevens Creek Boulevard,
and the necessity for restricting overnight pazking no longer exists. Due to increased parking
demands at Glenbrook Apartments since they were originally built in the 1970's, they have
requested that Mary Avenue be available for overnight parking along the northern portion of
their frontage.
The existing ordinance prohibits parking on the east side of Mary Avenue between 2a.m. and 5
a.m. between a point 340 feet north of Stevens Creek Boulevard and a point 440 south of Lubec
Street. The proposed ordinance would amend Table 11.24.160 #o prohibit parking on the east
side of Mary Avenue between 2a.m. and 5 a.m. between a point 340 feet north of Stevens Creek
Boulevard and a point 1000 feet south of Lubec Street.
