18. Canceling July meetings pavement problemCUPERTINO
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
Summary
AGENDA ITEM ~ ~ AGENDA DATE June 2, 2008
SUBJECT AND ISSUE
Potential delay of a portion of pavement maintenance work due to cancellation of July 2008
Council meetings.
BACKGROUND
On May 6, 20Q8, Staff delivered a report on the pavement management projects to be
constructed during the summer of 2008. The City of Cupertino has put these pavement
maintenance projects out to bid, the contracts for some of which were to be awarded during July
2008 when a portion of the necessary funds would become available. The 2408 Reconstruction
of Curbs, Gutters and Sidewalks, which will provide ADA required wheelchair ramps in
conjunction with the pavement projects, was also to be awarded during July for similar reasons.
The cancellation of the July 2008 Council meetings will delay the award of at least one of the
pavement management projects, as well as the awazd of the Reconstruction of Curbs, Gutters and
Sidewalks project until the first Council meeting of August 2008. Since .all of the
aforementioned projects are being bid on June 3 or June 17, one option available to Council to
avoid any delay in project award would be to place award of all the aforementioned projects after
approval of the 2008-09 budget of the June 17 Council meeting. All of the projects could be
considered for award at that ,time, with award of those projects that require it being made
effective on July 1, 2008.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no direct fiscal impact.
