EDC 03-08-2012 City of Cupertino Economic Development Committee Special Meeting: March 8, 2012 Minutes 1. CALL TO ORDER-11:03 AM At 11:03 a.m. Aarti Shrivastava called the meeting to order in City Hall Conference Room A. 2. ROLL CALL City Staff: Carol Atwood, Timm Borden, Traci Caton, Erin Cooke, David Knapp, Mark Linder, Aarti Shrivastava Chamber: Kevin McClelland, Darcy Paul,John Zirelli, Mark Matsumoto, Maria Streetby City Council: Rod Sinks, Orrin Mahoney Planning Commission: Winnie Lee Absent: Mike Foulkes, Mike Rohde 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Dave Knapp moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting on August 10th, 2011. Timm Borden seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Sinks abstained from the vote and Foulkes and Rohde were absent. 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - None 5. NEW BUSINESS A. New Activity in Cupertino Shrivastava walked EDC members through the New Activity Summary Matrix and the Development Activity Report by highlighting the following projects: Main Street, Rosebowl, Homestead Square, Cupertino Crossroads, Bay Club, Apple Campus 2 and Cafeteria, Aloft Cupertino Hotel, Biltmore Adjacency, Bollinger Road and Rainbow Drive Subdivisions. Shrivastava also summarized the CBRE MarketView Report statistics noting very low vacancy rates and increasing demand for office and R&D space. McClelland described the Chamber's role in supporting the City with its services in the absence of a stronger Economic Development presence, via the Economic Development Manager position vacancy. This included a recent Chamber- hosted meeting with the developer community and suggestion to consider establishing an incubator/collaborative workspace in Cupertino. The Chamber offered to organize site visits to relevant local collaborative workspaces to learn more about these organization's operations, functions and facility requirements. Following Council direction from its February 7th meeting to move forward with the Economic Development Manager position by soliciting feedback on the position, the Economic Development Committee discussed and unanimously recommended moving forward with the hiring process for the Economic Development Manager position. To facilitate this, a job description will be circulated to Council Members and the Chamber to solicit feedback on the roles and responsibilities of the position. The target date to post the announcement is Friday, March 30th. As such, the Community Development Department requests feedback on the position description by all stakeholders by Monday, March 26th. 6. OLD BUSINESS - None 7.
