A RESOLUTION OF TNE CITY COUNCIL UF TNE CITY OF CUPERTINO
REGARUING MEASURE "A": A MEASURE FOR THE PRESERVATION
AND MAINTENANCE UF DE AN'LA AND FOUTkILLL COLLEGES
' WHEREAS, main[a Liing [he quality of edacational resources like Foothill
and De Mza Colleges is important to the welfare of the citizens o[ [he City

WNEREAS, Che Iioard of Trustees of the Foo[hill-De Anza Communlty Collegc
~ UiStrict has called an elec[ion for April 10, 1984, [o submit to [he electors
~ pteasure A, en[L[led "A Measure for the Preservation and Maintenance of De Anza
and Foo[hill Colleges," which proposes [l~at a special tax be levied in [he
i Uts[rict; and
i WHEREAS, [}ie proceeds frum the proposed tax will be useJ exclusively Eor
i the Limi[ed purposes oE buying necessary laboratury, technical, scten[ific and
~ u[her equipment for better tran5fer and job trainin~; programs, purchasing library
I books and repalring, main[lining, and improving cullege building; and
~ WiiEREAS, the Board of Trus[ees oE the District can reduce or repeal the
; tax if addlttonal funds are found but may not under any circumstances incre~tse
. ~he tux; and
WHEREAS, the cax mus[ be returned to the voters at least every four years
and may be repealed by a simple majority vo[e; and
WkiEREAS, State EundLn~ proposals for community colleges and the imposL[ion
of tuition on community colleFe students wiil no[ meet the accumutated main[enance,
repair, library acquisition and equipment needs of Foothill and De Anza Colleges;

endorses Measure A on the April 10, 1984 ballot and encoucages vo[era to vote ye5
on Measure A.
