CC Resolution No. 6151aRESOLUTION NO. 6151 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO REQUESTING CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ORDER THE RESIOVAL OF AUTOMOBILES PARKED ON HIGHWAY 85 RIGHT-OF-WAY. WHEREAS, State Highway Route 85 between U.S. 101 near Mountain View and Monterey Road (Route 101) in South San Jose was planned in the 1950's to serve the highway transportation needs of the West Valley Corridor area of Santa Clara County; and WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino is an integral part of the Route 85 corridor; and WHEREAS, during the 1960's, planning and development in the corridor areas of the cities of San Jose, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Campbell and Saratoga was predicated on the assumption that planned Route 85 would be completed as a major link in the street and transportation network of Santa Clara County; and WHEREAS, a portion of State Highway Route 85 was constructed in the mid-1960's as a freeway extending from U.S. 101 near Stierlin Road in Mountain View to Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino; and WHEREAS, construction was temporarily terminated at Stevens Creek Boulevard in such a manner to expect continuation; and WHEREAS, it is essential to protect the necessary right-of-way to allow construction of needed transportation facility; and WHEREAS, allowing parking on the Route 85 corridor jeopardizes the integrity of that right-of-way; and WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino and its Council has been active historically in favor of completion of a transportation facility within the Route 85 corridor; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cupertino that the State of California should insure complete protection of the Route 85 corridor right-of-way including prohibition of parking on that corridor, and urges the California Department of Transportation to order the cessation of parking along the Highway 85 right-of-way.
