A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO REQUESTING

PARKED ON HIGHWAY 85 RIGHT-OF-WAY.
WHEREAS, State Highway Route 85 between U.S. 101 near Mountain View and
Monterey Road (Route 101) in South San Jose was planned in the 1950's to serve
the highway transportation needs of the West Valley Corridor area of Santa
Clara County; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino is an integral part of the Route 85
corridor; and
WHEREAS, during the 1960's, planning and development in the corridor areas of
the cities of San Jose, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Campbell and Saratoga
was predicated on the assumption that planned Route 85 would be completed as a
major link in the street and transportation network of Santa Clara County; and
WHEREAS, a portion of State Highway Route 85 was constructed in the mid-1960's
as a freeway extending from U.S. 101 near Stierlin Road in Mountain View to
Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino; and
WHEREAS, construction was temporarily terminated at Stevens Creek Boulevard
in such a manner to expect continuation; and
WHEREAS, it is essential to protect the necessary right-of-way to allow
construction of needed transportation facility; and
WHEREAS, allowing parking on the Route 85 corridor jeopardizes the integrity
of that right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino and its Council has been active historically
in favor of completion of a transportation facility within the Route 85 corridor;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cupertino
