CC Resolution No. 5677 ~ • RESOLUTION N0. 5677 A RGSOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO ~ EXPRESSINC SUPPORT OF REDRESS FOR TFiOSE INCARCERATED AS A ~ RESULT OF EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 9066, WORLD WAR II i ~ WHEREAS, the citizens of the United States of America are dedicated to the principle of "equal 3ustice for all"; and WHF.REAS, we express our support of the efforts of American citizens and their offspring in seeking passage of laws hy Congress granting monetary reparatlona for injusticea nnd wrongs perpetrated upon them as a consequence I of Executive Order 9066, which was issued on February 19, 1942, and which resulted in the evic[ton and uprooting Erom their homes and detainment and incarcera- ~i tion in barbed-wire enclosed concentration camps, resulting in the degradation of human dignity; and ~~kIEREAS, we believe that the Constitu[ion of the United States applies to nll citizens, at all times and under ali circumstances; and WHEREAS, we believe that [he violations of fundamental civil and human ' rights committed under Executive Ordec 9066 must be rectified by a meaning- ' ful redress; and WHEREt1S, c~e encourage the citizens of Cupertino to particlpate in the hearings hcld by the U. S. Presidential Commission to study the World War II evacuation and internment oE U. S, civilians; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council does hereby extend i[s sincere support and encourages the local citizens to pariicipate in Lhe comcnission process to be held in the Bay Area on August 11, 12 and 13, 1981.
