CC Resolution No. 5435 ~ ` ~ RESOLUTION N0. 5435 • A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUIVCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO AMENDING THE PAY PLAN UNDGR THG PERSONNEL CODE TO EFFECT A Cf1ANGE IN DEPARTMEb(TAL ORGANIZATION WHEREAS, a change in departmental organization has resulted in [he replacement of the Director of Personnel by a Personnel Officer; and, WHEREAS. the Pay Plan under provisions of the Personnel Code should reflect the correct position terminology; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the designation of Dlrector of Personnel or Personnel Director be amended to read Personnel Officer in the following named sections of the Pay Plan: Section 3. Puraose The purpose of this Pay Plan is to establish salary ranges, schadules of pay grades t~ whicii c2asses of positions wi11 ba assigned and to provide ior rates of pay for closses and positions whose imcumbents are patd at an huurly rate; to pr~vide for the establishment of rates of pay for employees on thei: initial appointment to City service, :nd fo: the orderly and equitable pro- gression of employees saithin a salary raiige based on raerit and ler.gth of ser- vice; :o provide ior incrc.,s~s in salary on pro~otion, decreases in salary on denotion; and for the nar ~er and occurrences when other increases, decreases, acid adjustr,.ents in salary may be made. Section 2. II Section 6. Schedule of Pay Grades , The attached schedule oE pay grades, effective the 30th day of ; June, 1971, is hereby made a part of this Pay Plan. On and after this date all salaries and rates of pay shall Se paid at one of the steps in the Pay ' Grade at which che classificatiun of the position has been assigned, at a ' rate be[ween Step 3 and the u~axi:~uin as authorized by the Appointing Authority or at an hourly rate as set forth for those classifications not assigned to ' a Pay Grade. Section 6.1. Weekly-Monthly Rates The Pay Plan and Schedule of Pay Grades reference to weekly ' salaries is for purposes of convenience in admini.stering the oi-weekly payroll , system and said reference is interchangeable with the corresponding monthly ' eGuivalent of that weekly salary. SecL•ion 6.2. Sectien 10. Promotions ~n e~nloyee shall be given an increase in salary at [he time of receiving a promotion. Such increase shall be to the Step 1 of the Pay Crade for his new classificatton or to a step ne:ct higner in amount that approxi- mates but e~ceeds a five percent (SY.) increase in salary if the new Step 1 is lesser; providing, however, that ao increase shali 'result in a nev salary above Step 3 of che new pay Grade. Promotional inereases in excess of the i foregoing may be gran[ed at the discretion of the Appointing Authority. i Section 11. Demotions An employee shall be given a decrease in salary at [he time he re- caives a demution for cause, such decrease shall be'to the same step in the , lower Pay Grade as the step on which he was paid inmediately prior Co the ! demotion or to Step 3 of the lower Pay Grade if his salary immediately prior to the de~otion was above Step 3 oF the highcr Pay Grade. Section 12. Volun~arv Reduccions An employee who requests and is granted a reduction to a position in a lower Pay Grade may receive a salary considered appropriate by tne Appointing Authority proctding such new salary does not result in an increase. Section 13. Resll~catfons and Reclassifications 1n employee whcse position has been allocated to a new class or whose classification has been changed to a new Pay Grade shall Se patd at the same step in the new Pay Grade as the scep on which he was paid imcaedi2tely prior to the change; or at a rate above Step 3 in the new Pay Grade corres- ponding in relattonship to the rate above Step 3 in the old Pay Grade at which he was paid immedtately prior to the change. Section 14. Transfers an employee who is transferred from une position to a vacant position in another ~lassification assigned to the same Pay Crade shall not receive a change in salary as a result oF such transfer. Section 15. Ad ustaents Adjustments in salary may be made by the Appointing .luthority to correct clerical errors, to msintain equitability oE psy wichin a group of employees or positions oc for o[lier good and suff:cient reason. Pay Periods Pay period shall consiat of fourteen (14) caleadar days con~enc:n~ June 30, 1971.
