' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO
R~GARDING AIR QUALITY PLANNING RE-DESICNATION

4 WfiEREAS, the Association of Bay Area Covernmen[s was designated in 1978
' as the Bay Area's lead air quality planning agency under s. 174 of the Clean
Air Act; and
Wf?EREAS, the Bay Area cities and counties called for and supported such
~ designation; and

~ WliEREAS, the locally adopted Bay Area Air Quallty plan recognizes the
existing responsibilities of the Association, the Bay Area Air Quality Manage-
' ment District and the Ptetropolitan Transpor[ation Co~ission in preparing the
! annual upda[es and the 1982 Bay Area Air Quality Plan; and

WFiEREAS, [his initial award-winning plan has been accepted by the California
Air Resources Board and forwarded to the Environmen[al Protec[ion Agency; and "
11kiIItEAS, the Bay Azeu Air Quality Managemen[ Diatrict has now requested
of the State to be co-designated as lead agency; and
WHERFAS, to have two lead agencies would [hreaten continued control of
the Bay Area plan by each of our city and county govermnents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Cupertino opposes any
attempt by the California Air Resources Board to change the air quality planning
designation in the Say Area; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED tha[ copies of this resolution be sent to the
California Air Resourcea Board, the Association of Bay Area Governments and
appropriate State legislators.
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of ihe Ci[y
of Cupertino this 3rd day of March, 1980 by [he following vote:
