In amny in- ; stances the use of personal vehicles is a condition of enployment due to the absence of sufficient Ci[y owned vehicles for general trans- portation purposes. It is not intended, however, [hat such a con- dition of employment should work an undue hardship. For [his reason the following policies shall apply for automobile allowances and mileage reimbursements. For those persons who occasionally are required to use their personal automobiles for City business shall be reimbursed Eor such use at an appropriate rate established by the City Council. Submission of a reimbursement request must be approved by the department head. I Those persons who are required to use their personal vehicles for I Ci[_v business on a recurring and often basis shall, with the approval of the City t4anager, be reimbursed at the rate of fifty dollars ($50) per 'i month for a given number of miles to be determined by a schedule adopted by the City Council and at [he established rate per miles; provided, however, that a record of all mileage for tfie use of personal au[omobiles on City business shall be filed as a prerequisite to any such reimburse- ment on forms provided. The excep[ion [o the foregoing paragraph shall be for department heads who are not assigned a City uwned vehicle and for those persons previously reimbursed for use oi personal automobilas on Ci[y business at a rate of seventy Eive dollars ($75) per month who shall continue [o be reimbursed at said rate without having to submit a record of mileage as a prerequisite to any such reimbursemen[. While recognition is given that similar or modified automobile allowance and mileage reimbursement schedules may be applicable to employees not eligible under the hlanagement Compensation Program, its inclusion as a policy under said Program is ior completeness of record. ~ldopted by Action of [he City Council April i, 1974 Revised July 2, 1974 Revised May 24, 1974
