A RESOLUTZON OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF CL~ ERTI\0
INDIC~TING ITS SUPPORT FOR COMPLETION OF HIGHWAY 85 BY
PROVZDING "SEED" ;IONEY TO PROMOTE ~4D .1SSIST THE CON-
STRUCTION OF THE WEST VALLEY CORRZDOR
WHEREr1S, the development of the West Valley transportation corridor
has been under conslderation by the Sta[e of California for a number of
years; and
WEiEREAS, the City of Cupertino has incorporated the extension of
Highway 85 along this corridor in its General Plan basing land use,
transportation and other elements on such extension; and
WHEREAS, the starting date for this project has been set back by the
State at least twice; and
WHEREAS, the present [erminus of Highway 85 funnels co~ute traffic
on to residential streets not designed to handle such traffic loads; and
WHEREAS, tnis has created an increase in noise, pollution and incon-
venience to the adjoining residents as well as an increase in traffic
hazards; and
WHEREAS, continued delay of this project will only serve to increase
the casts of the project to the taxpayers as well as the problems above
mentioned; and
WI~R&1S, this project Will beneficially affect several cities as well
as uniacorpora[ed areas witnin Santa Clara Coun[y;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that tae City of Cupertino hereby joins
vith other cities and interes[ed citizena and indicates its local support
by providing "seed" money to promote and assist the construction of the
West Valiey Corridor.
