PETITIONLNG THE FCC TO DENY THE ASSIGN*fENT OF LICENSE AND
FORMAT CHANGE UF STATION ICMPX-FM AND URGINC CONTRIBUTION
TO PRESEKVATION OF l4~iPX
WHEtcEAS, Radio Station KMPX-FM's broadcast forma[ is unique in providing
for its listeners the Big Band Sound and Jazz of the 1920's, 1930's, and 1940's,
and ;
! wiiFScF.1S, tne staff oi I~fPX-E~! makes available for its programming rare re-
I corded musical performancea that are no longer available to the general public
by any other means; and

, WHERFAS, when ICMPX-FM obtained a renewal of its license in 1974 the owners
~ told the FCC that there was a public deed for their unique format, but they now
, propose to abandon that format and assign the license to a religious station;
' and
WEiEREAS, if abandoned it is unlikely that all the elements of this unique
public service could ever be reassembled again; and
WHERFAS, there is great public interest in [he continued operations of KMPX-FM
in its present format,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVID, that
1. The Ci[y of Cupertino petitions [he FCC to deny the assignmen[ oi
license and the format change of station FG*SP%-FM, and
2. The Ci[y urges its citizens to contribute to the preservation of
[his unique radio institution through the h.'~tPX Lis[ener's Guild,
