CC Resolution No. 4135 RESOLUTION N0. 4135 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO REAFFIRMING ITS POSITION ON THE URGENT NEED FOR EARLY COMPLETION OF HIGHWAY 85 EXTENSION BETWEEN STEVENS CREEK BOULEVARD AND SARATOGA-SUNNYVALE ROAD WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cupertino previously has endorsed the completion of Highway 85 from Stevens Creek Boulevard to the future intersection of Highway 85 and Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road; and WHEREAS, such endorsement has been conveyed to appropriate persons and agencies of the State for consideration in adoption of preliminary planning programs; acquisition of rights of way and construction plans; and WHEREAS, the State has reprogrammed and so doing delayed such construction to commence after 1983 a time frame during whieh there is no alleviation to the ever increasing problems involving the use of existing traffic systems; and WHEREAS, planning studies indicate this extension is necessary even if the Santa Clara County Transit system should be success~ul in meeting its goal of 30% of daily trips in Santa Clara County, a highly optimistic goal; and WHEREAS, without the extension it is estimated 14 lanes will be required on I-280 by 1985 within the vicinity of Cupertino; and WHEREAS, the moderate to low density development made~prominent in Santa Clara County appears to be best served by a balance of all elements of a transportation system; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Cupertino does hereby reaffirm its previous endorsement for completion of the extension of Highway 85 between Stevens Creek Boulevard and Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road at the earliest possible date; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that earlier findings be reconfirmed that such extension will have an affirmative impact toward the reduction of noise and air~pollution in the community and the conservation of energy and natural resources through a reduction in the vehicle miles driven all of which is in the best interest of the State, the City of Cupertino and residents~of surrounding communities who are the users of the existing traffic systems.
