CC Resolution No. 3356 • . • RESU:GUTION No. 3356 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY ~.JUivCTL OI' THE 'CITY OF CUPERTINO IN ~ SUPPORT OF THI: 19 72 CO? 4~IIJV?'TY COLLEGE CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM BOND ACT TO B~ VOT':Cn UPUN ON NOV'r~IBER 7, 1972 WEIER~AS, eighty-seven pecceczt of all freshman and sophomore students attending college in California are enrolled in a community college; and WHEREAS, the one-half million students now enrolled in California com- munity colleges are expected to double in the next ten years; and WHEREAS, funds are needed now to provide the classrooms, laboratories, vocational sh~~ps and other facilities to meet this expanding enrollment; and WHEREAS, state funds from previous higher education bond acts earmarked for community college construction have now been exhausted; •and WHEREP.S, the State LegislaturP, by unanimous vote, and the Governor have placed on the November ballot a$160 million community college construc- tior. bond' issue to provide necessa.ry ~dditional funds; and WHEREAS, this continues the concept of state assistance to community col- leges for building ccnstruction, equipment, and site acquisition orginally out- Zined in the California riaster Plan for Higher Education in ~960 and_in the 1962, 1964, and 1968 higher education bond acts which earmarked state funds for community college construction; and ~ Tn'HEREAS, this will provide taa--relief for local property owners who ha~e assumed the major bur.den for providing community college facilities even treugh the community coll.eges enroll twice the combined enrollments of state colleges and the various campuses of the University of California; ~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the~ City Council of the City of Cuper- tiuo hereby declares its endorsement of the 1972 Community College C~nstruction Program Bond Act oa the November 7 ballot and urges the coters of the state to give approval to this important measure.
