A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO
AUTHORIZING STRONG SUPPORT OF THE
HIGH-SPEED RAIL SERVING SANTA CLARA COUNTY
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California created the California High-Speed Rail
commission to prepare a blueprint for statewide High-Speed Rail service;
WHEREAS, High-Speed Rail is proposed to connect Southern and Northern California through
the Central Valley;
WHEREAS, the voters of the State of California will decide whether or not to fund the $23
billion of implementation costs for statewide High-Speed Rail service in the November 2000 election;
WHEREAS, High-Speed Rail service would serve the cities of San Francisco, Oakland, and
San Jose;
WHEREAS, the statewide High-Speed Rail service will utilize the latest, most feasible and
technically proven technology available with estimated speeds in the order of 150 miles per hour;
WHEREAS, the City of San Jose is home to the largest population and serves as the economic
center for the Silicon Valley;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cupertino City Council fully supports the
initiation of statewide High-Speed Rail service in Santa Clara County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Cupertino City Council believes
the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) preferred alignment, which would service the
Bay Area through Pacheco Pass, is the best route alternative because it would significantly increase
ridership in the Bay Area.

Cupertino this 19~ day of July, 1999, by the following vote:
