11.34.010 IiLIAD HUMP - DEF'ItJZTION
A road bump is a vertical rise in the surface of the pavement of three (3)
to three and one-ha1P (3-1/2) inches at its midpoint. Rhe profile is
generally circular and twelve (12) feet in length. There is no vertical
displaoeuient at the start or finish of the road bump. The shape is
consistent fc~r the full width of the pavement except for the last t~ao (2)
feet at each end. The ends will be tapered so that they are flush with
the roadway at the edge of pavement or at the lip of a gutter.
11.34.020 AUPHORITSI
These are conferred upon the City Manager those powers and duties
necessary for the administration of this chapter. In addition, there is
also o~ferred upon the City Manager the authority and pacer to designate
such officers and employees of the City, and of other cooperating public
agencies, such as the Sheriffs Department, as may be required to assist
him in carrying out the intent and purpose of this chapter.
11.34.030 F~A4TI5 FOR THE INS'-'AT.rA~rr~ ANp MAINTENANCE OF
ROAD HUMPS
Road bumps may be installed and maintained on streets where all of the
following criteria have been and continue to be satisfied.
1. The street is a neighborhood residential street as defined by the
California vehicle GUde or by City Council actions.
2. The street is no wider than forty (40) Peet fraa curb to ctrzb or
fray edge of pavement to edge of pavement.
3. The street contains no more than one (1) lade in each direction.
4. A speed limit of tw~ty-five (25) miles per hour has been
established in conformance with State law..
5. The street is not a truck route or a transit bus route.
6. The street has an average annual daily traffic volume of less than
four tlwusartd (4, 000) vehicles.
7. The street has a maxiimna grade of five (5) percent or less for any
segment between intersections.
8. The minirmm< distance from an intersection or curve to the toad
bump shall be two hurrired (200) feet.
9. The spacing between road bumps shall be a minirmnn of four-hundred
(400) feet aryl a maximum of five-hundred-fifty (550) feet.
10. The road bump is visible for a distance of two-hwxlred (200) feet.
UFaGII1CY: This oLZlinartoe shall take effect immediately upon enactment as
an urgency measure due to the urgent necessity to ir~rove the safety of
this intersection. It is hereby found and declared that this urgency
measure is rsecessary for the health, safety and general welfare of the
inhabitants of the City of Cupertino.
