As directed by the soil engineer we have moved the drain tile down to the bottom of the keyway. We have increased the drain tile from 4"0 to 6"0 and drain rock from 12" to 18". These revisions will remove water from behind the wall which would interfere with the resistance to sliding. We recommend hotmopping the back of the wall to direct water down to the drain and preclude any seep agehrough the concrete block. The footing may ope4 as we discussed with the soil engineer. y, h Jonson s••UNITED SOIL ENGINEERING, INC. After inspecting the site and reviewing the details, we recommend that 6" diameter perforated pipe be placed at a level lower than the bottom of the key. A layer of 6 inches of rock should also be placed beneath the key. A gravel layer should be continued all the way behind the retaining wall. This would take care of the seepage water and keep the water level lower than the pipe level. All the other details should be kept as shown on the pian. We feel that it is a complete waste of water and energy. The proposed modification of planting this area and the hillside meets with our approval. Please show that the Rancho Deep Cliff Home Owners Association as being in full support of this modified plan. INSPECTIUN DEPARTMENT Dear Sirs: CITY OF CCPERTINO Please consider our proposed plan. The original plan shows an artificial stream bed and storage ponds at either end. This is located in an area behind 5 units of the Phase II units and below 4 units in Phase III. It is now very apparent this would be of insignificant benefit to the over all esthetics. Noting that the location is directly behind the patio walls of the lower units and out of vision of the upper units; even these adjoining units would lack much direct benefit. More important in view of energy conservation, the use of this sub- stantial water and pump energy does not appear to be appropriate or warranted today. We have reviewed this with the Rancho Deep Cliff Home Owners Association. They have agreed the water and electric conservation is important and that the revised landscape plan is pleasing and an improvement of the original. We would appreciate your early consideration of this proposal, so that our landscape team can tackle the hillside landscape and possibly install it prior to our hoped for heavy rains. The work commenced with the general removal and stockpiling of the organi- cally contaminated topsoil. The area designated to receive engineered fill was stripped of all organic material and the exposed surface was scarified to a minimum depth of 8 inches and recompacted to 90% relative compaction in accordance with the soil investigation report prepared by our firm, File No. 6-909-S1, dated August 22, 1975. Field density tests obtained by our firm indicated that adequate compaction was being obtained on the building pad areas during grading operations. The results of these tests, on which acceptance is based, show values in excess of 90% relative compaction for native soil according to the laboratory test procedure ASTM D1557-70. In summary, the proposed building pads are now acceptably completed according to field grade stakes and the recommendations of the previously mentioned soil investigation report, and are ready to receive building improvements. file No. 6-909-S2 Aug+st 4, 1977 Summarized in Table I are the results of the field tests performed by our firm to date.
