Agenda Date: November 6, 2006
ISSUE
Authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute a minor amendment to the contract
with Life Time Tennis, which insures that the City earns equivalent income for lessons
given by Life Time Tennis at De Anza College.
BACKGROUND
Our tennis instruction contractor, Life Time Tennis, secured additional court space at
De Anza College in an effort to expand business without displacing Sports Center pass
holders. As Council is aware, over commitment of courts at the Sports Center, to Life
Time Tennis, was an issue raised during the last contract negotiation. Mr. Gill has
agreed to continue to pay the city an amount equal to what he pays at the Sports Center
(per contract) while using the De Anza facility. In return, we would continue to market
and register his participants as part of the Cupertino Parks and Recreation program. The
City has no expense related to Life Time Tennis booking of courts at De Anza College.
FISCAL IMPACT
It is anticipated that the execution of this minor amendment will result in approximately
$30,000 more revenue to the Sports Center from Lifetime Tennis.
RECOMMENDATION
Authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute a minor amendment to the contract
with Life Time Tennis, which insures that the City earns equivalent income for lessons
given by Life Time Tennis at De Anza College.
