RESOLUTION NO. 250
OF THE DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO
APPROVING A SIGN EXCEPTION TO EXCEED THE MAXIMUM SIGN
HEIGHT—UP TO 35 INCHES FOR THE COMPANY NAME AND UP TO
72 INCHES FOR THE LOGO SIGN FOR AN EXISTING INDUSTRIAL
BUILDING AT 10200 SOUTH DE ANZA BOULEVARD
SECTION I: PRO1ECT DESCRIPTION
Application No.: EXC-2007-01
Applicant: Jonathan Hobbs, Square Peg Design for Symantec
Location: 10200 South De Anza Boulevard
SECTION II: FINDINGS
WHEREAS, the Design Review Committee of the City of Cupertino received an
application for a Sign Exception, as described in this Resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Design Review Committee finds that the changes are beneficial and
compatible with the surrounding area;
1. That the literal enforcement of the provisions of this title will result in restrictions
inconsistent with the spirit and intent of this title, in that the proposed sign
height is harmonious and proportional to the size of the building, its setback
from De Anza Boulevard and its broad horizontal banding;
2. That the granting of the exception will not result in a condition which is
materially detrimental to the public health, safety, or welfare, since the proposed
halo-illumination of the sign is much less intrusive than other forms of sign
lighting that is potentially visible to the westerly residential neighborhood.
3. That the exception to be granted is one that will require the least modification of
the prescribed regulations and the minimum variance that will accomplish the
purpose. The sign area and coverage is under the maximum allowed by the sign
code. The sign height will provide an effective sign that is well-proportioned to
fit the building.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
That after careful consideration of maps, facts, exhibits, testimony and other evidence
submitted in this matter, the application no. EXC-2007-01, is hereby approved; and
