Application No.(s): EXC- 2010 -10 Applicant: Sign Development, Inc (Valero Service Station) Location: 1699 S De Anza Blvd Sign Exception request to allow for three wall signs where one is allowed at an existing service station Design Review Committee decision final unless appealed. Staff member Schroeder explained that the service station already has a ground sign and is allowed one wall sign. The Sign Exception application is to install two additional wall signs. The service station is located on the corner of Prospect Road and De Anza Boulevard. The Applicant 2 Design Review Committee November 4, 2010 will be installing one wall sign on the building front facing De Anza to advertise the food center. They would like to place the other two signs on the service station canopy facing the traffic traveling north and south on De Anza Boulevard. The canopy signs are proposed to be illuminated. The applicant will be installing these sign in conjunction with other sign work they will be doing. They will be lowering the ground sign to meet code and will be adding small Valero signs with company logos on them to the canopy. Staff has surveyed twelve other service stations in the area. They all have similar signage. The Committee has approved several similar applications in the past few years for additional signage at service stations. Since this request is similar in nature to other approved requests, the signs are architecturally compatible and are minimally distracting to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, Staff supports the project. The Committee members did not have any questions. The applicant did not wish to address the Committee. A resident spoke in favor of having sign exception applications being heard by the Design Review Committee.
