Subject: Director's Minor Modification, DIR-2010-32, to allow the placement of an
emergency equipment and supp �y container to aid the response and recovery
operations in the event of a major local emergency at 19333 Vallco Parkway in
the P(MP) zoning district.
Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Miinicipal Code allows for administrative
approval of minor changes in a prc�ject. The Director reports his decision
to the City Council and Planning C:ommission in time to allow an appeal
of the decision within fourteen cale:ldar days.
DISCUSSION
The applicant is requesting approval to pl �ce a 320 square foot, 8 foot high emergency
equipment and supply container on prop��rty occupied by Apple, Inc. The container is
a secured storage trailer that will contain equipment (shovels, rope, etc.) and supplies
(food, water, first aid) necessary for a larg�� scale disaster to serve Apple employees.
The emergency container will be located along the northern perimeter of the site
abutting Interstate 280 in the rear parking lot. The container will be located well behind
the buildings on this site, and therefore, will be well-screened from Vallco Parkway.
Additionally, the northern perimeter alo:zg Interstate 280 is well screened by mature
redwood trees.
A total of five compact parking spaces will be lost due to the placement of the container
over these spaces. These compact parking spaces are overflow parking spaces, over and
above the required 1,028 standard parkir�g spaces for the site. Therefore, loss of these
parking spaces is not critical and will not impact the parking requirements for this site.
The City's emergency preparedness coordinator is supportive of this application since it
will allow Apple the ability to be self-sufficient in such an emergency.

ACTION
The Director of Community Development deems the modification minor and approves
the placement of the emergency container on the subject property subject to the
attached plan set (See Attachment 1).
This approval of the modification is effec�tive October 6, 2010. The fourteen calendar
day appeal period will expire on October �!1, 2010.
