SUBJECT: TREE REMOVAL PERMIT ACTION LETTER - Application TR-2010-16:
This letter confirms the decision of the Di:�ector of Community Development, given on
June 10, 2010, approving a tree removal pe:•mit to remove one (1) Coast Redwood tree at
20800 Homestead Road, with the following conditions:
1. APPROVED PROTECT
The approval is based on the arbori� t report prepared by McClenahan Consulting,
LLC, ISA Board Certified Master Ar �orist #1476 B, dated March 8, 2010 pertaining
to the Coast Redwood (tree #217� lc►cated 20800 Homestead Road, except as may
be amended by conditions in this resolution.
2. NOTICE OF FEES, DEDICATIONS, [ZESERVATIONS OR OTHER EXACTIONS
The Conditions of Project Approv��l set forth herein may include certain fees,
dedication requirements, reservatior� requirements, and other exactions. Pursuant
to Government Code Section 6602�(d) (1), these Conditions constitute written
notice of a statement of the amount of such fees, and a description of the
dedications, reservations, and other ��xactions. You are hereby further notified that
the 90-day approval period in wh ich you may protest these fees, dedications,
reservations, and other exactions, pi�rsuant to Government Code Section 66020(a),
has begun. If you fail to file a prote� t within this 90-day period complying with all
of the requirements of Section 6E 020, you will be legally barred from later
challenging such exactions.
Staff has made the findings necessary to gr<<nt the tree removal permit in accordance with
Section 14.18.180 of the Protected Trees Ord nance.

Site Inspection — March 5, 2010
As requested, I performed a visual inspectic n of exposed roots from coast redwoods
#215, 217 and 219. The porch excavations �ncompass 25 to 35 percent of root
environments. Tree 217 was in such poor c��ndition prior to construction that it should be
removed.
I recommend no further excavation for porch footings, the foundation can be
cantilevered over the remaining roots. All d��maged roots should be cut cleanly and
sealed. Any excavation within Tree Protect on Zones must be accomplished by hand
digging. Anytime roots are cut, tree anchorage is compromised and failure potential
increases.
