Agenda Item Number I °
Agenda Date: May 18, 2010
SUBJECT AND ISSUE
Authorize the West Valley Mayors and Managers Group to appoint the Southwest County
Agencies board member to the Silicon Valley Regional Interoperability Authority (SVRIA).
BACKGROUND
On April 20, 2010, City Council voted to join the SVRIA. That agreement calls for one board
member to represent the Southwest County Agencies (Cupertino, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, Los
Gatos and Campbell). Since the West Valley Mayors and Managers Group is composed of
these same municipalities, it is appropriate that it make the appointment to SVRIA. The five
city councils would nominate candidates for each of their cities and the Mayors and Managers
Group would make the appointment.
The SVRIA's purpose is to enhance and improve communications, data sharing and other
technical systems, tools and processes to protect the public and facilitate regional cooperation.
By taking a regional approach, SVRIA will significantly improve the ability of various fire,
police and other emergency service providers - :o communicate with each other in emergencies
and on a day -to -day basis.
RECOMMENDATION
Authorize the West Valley Mayors and Managers Group to appoint the Southwest County
Agencies board member to the Silicon Valley F:egional Interoperability Authority (SVRIA).
Respectfully submitted:
