CUPERTINO TEEN COMMISSION
Wednesday, September 9, 2026
At 6:02 p.m. Recreation Manager Sonya Lee called the regular Teen Commission meeting to order
at the Quinlan Conference Room, 10185 North Stelling Road and via teleconference.
ROLL CALL
Present: Commissioners Rusheel Deshmukh, Jonathan Gao, Pranshu Jha, Stefan Johnson (alternate),
Sumedha Kumar, Anya Mulchandani, Vinay Prakash, Nikita Sharma and Isabel Tian. Absent:
Saanvi Halambi.
CEREMONIAL MATTERS AND PRESENTATIONS
1.Subject: Swearing-in Ceremony for Incoming 2026-2028 Teen Commissioners
Recommended Action: Swear in the five incoming Teen Commissioners for the
2026-2028 term.
City Clerk Lauren Sapudar swore in new Commissioners.
Recreation Manager Sonya Lee opened the public comment period and, seeing no one,
closed the public comment period.
2.Subject: Teen Commission Orientation
Recommended Action: Receive an overview of the Commissioners' Handbook from
City Clerk, Lauren Sapudar.

3.Subject: Teen Programs Presentation
Teen Commission Minutes September 9, 2026
Recommended Action: Receive a presentation on Youth Activity Board (YAB),
Recreation Event Volunteers (REV), Leaders in Training (LIT), Techie Teens, and Teen
Commission from Recreation Coordinator, Robert Kaufman.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
4. Subject: Approval of Minutes - August 12, 2026
Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes from the Teen Commission
meeting on August 12, 2026.
Commissioners asked questions which staff responded to.
Recreation Manager Sonya Lee opened the public comment period and, seeing no one,
closed the public comment period.
MOTION: Kumar moved and Deshmukh seconded to approve the August 12, 2026,
minutes. The motion passed with the following vote: Ayes: Deshmukh, Gao, Jha, Johnson,
Kumar, Mulchandani, Prakash, Sharma and Tian. Noes: None. Abstain: None. Absent:
Halambi.

5. Subject: 2026-2027 Chair and Vice Chair Selection
Recommended Action: Select a Chair and Vice Chair for the 2026-2027 Teen

closed the public comment period.
MOTION: Prakash moved and Tian seconded to postpone the 2026-2027 Chair and Vice
Chair selection to the next regular Teen Commission meeting. The motion passed with the
following vote: Ayes: Gao, Jha, Johnson, Mulchandani, Prakash and Tian. Noes:
Deshmukh, Kumar and Sharma. Abstain: None. Absent: Halambi.
Commissioners introduced themselves.
6. Subject: Teen Commission 2026-2027 Meeting Topics
Recommended Action: Review and approve the list of potential meeting topics for
2026-2027 term.

None. Abstain: None. Absent: Halambi.
STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS
Recreation Coordinator Robert Kaufman discussed the importance of communicating over City
email, the official Cupertino Parks and Recreation Instagram and upcoming events.
