HomeMy WebLinkAboutTR-2026-035 - Applicant Arborist Report Arborist Report for Tree Removal Permit Property Address: 19900 Stevens Creek Boulevard Cupertino, CA City of Cupertino Code Enforcement Case Number: CE-2026-0052 Subject Tree: Monterey Pine (Pinus radiata) Diameter at Breast Height (DBH): 18 inches Arborist Assessment An inspection was conducted of the subject Monterey Pine located at the above property. The tree measures approximately 18 inches DBH and has been determined to be completely dead, exhibiting total canopy mortality with no evidence of living foliage, viable buds, or active cambium tissue. The tree has reached irreversible decline and is no longer viable. As a standing dead tree, the Monterey Pine presents an increasing risk of structural failure as wood decay progresses. Dead pines are particularly susceptible to limb failure, trunk failure, and eventual whole-tree collapse due to the deterioration of structural wood and root stability. Because the tree is deceased, there are no accepted arboricultural treatments that can restore its health or structural integrity. The need for removal was identified through City of Cupertino Code Enforcement Case No. CE-2026-0052, which cited the property owner for the hazardous condition created by the dead tree. Recommendation Based on the tree's condition, removal of the 18-inch DBH Monterey Pine is recommended. The tree is beyond preservation, poses an ongoing safety hazard, and should be removed to eliminate the risk of failure and to comply with the City's Code Enforcement requirements. As mitigation for the removal, the property owner proposes to plant two (2) 24-inch box Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia spp.) trees in suitable locations on the property. The replacement trees will provide long-term landscape value while being appropriate for the available planting space and compatible with surrounding site conditions. Conclusion The subject Monterey Pine is completely dead and presents an increasing risk due to its deteriorated structural condition. Removal is warranted based on its irreversible decline and in accordance with the requirements of TR-2026-035 8/7/2026 Catherine Tarone City of Cupertino Code Enforcement Case No. CE-2026-0052. The proposed replacement planting of two 24- inch box Crape Myrtle trees will adequately mitigate the tree removal while contributing to the long-term health and sustainability of the property's urban forest.
