Response Time. Notice of SUPPORT, (As Amended June 10, 2026)
Dear Assembly Member Pacheco:
On behalf of the City of Cupertino, I am writing to express our support for your Assembly Bill
(AB) 1821, which seeks to improve the administration of the California Public Records Act
(CPRA) by establishing clear methods for submitting records requests, addressing cost recovery
for certain commercial requests, and providing agencies with reasonable response timelines.
Our city is committed to transparency and public access to government records. As the volume
and complexity of public records requests continue to increase, local agencies require clear and
practical procedures that allow them to efficiently process requests while continuing to provide
essential public services.
By modernizing the CPRA and establishing clearer administrative procedures, AB 1821 will
improve government efficiency while continuing to uphold the public's right to access
information.
For these reasons, the City of Cupertino is pleased to support your AB 1821.
