Quinlan Conf Room: Commissioner Gall? Sure.

00:00:38.790 --> 00:00:40.490
Speaker 9 (Quinlan Conf Room): Mr. Dashma? Yes.

00:00:41.820 --> 00:00:43.780
Speaker 9 (Quinlan Conf Room): Vice Chair Liu? Here.
12
00:00:46.550 --> 00:00:51.769
Speaker 9 (Quinlan Conf Room): For the record, Commissioner Hsu,
Commissioner Lau, Commissioner Wombie, and Commissioner Gow are
absolutely.
13
00:00:52.800 --> 00:00:54.549
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Did you allow all of this.
14
00:00:57.440 --> 00:00:59.480
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): of digital surveillance.
15
00:01:00.360 --> 00:01:01.749
Quinlan Conf Room: And now, I got in.
16
00:01:07.050 --> 00:01:07.680
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Bye.
17
00:01:07.840 --> 00:01:13.440
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you, Lindsay. Moving on to the first
item of business, first on ceremonial matters and presentations.
18
00:01:13.560 --> 00:01:24.690
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): First we'll have, the subject being
intergenerational programs presentations. The recommended action is to
receive a presentation on intergenerational programs from Recreational
coordinator Zoe Healy.
19
00:01:29.080 --> 00:01:52.699
Zoe Keeley: Good evening, Teen Commission. I appreciate you all giving me
the chance to talk with you this evening. I'll be presenting on
intergenerational programs. Again, my, I'm a recreation coordinator with…
coordinator with our Senior Wellness Division here at Cupertino's Parks
and Recreation, so I'll be presenting one community event, as well as one
teen volunteer program that are available and are beneficial for our teen
community.
20
00:01:53.620 --> 00:02:17.270
Zoe Keeley: So our first event I would like to highlight is our Disco at
Dusk event. This is a all-ages silent disco, that is open for adults,
kids, and teens, and our Senior Center members, that is a silent disco
where you're able to listen to different stations of music, and it's a
themed event, which is a really great opportunity to come together as a
community, and just dance the night away.
21
00:02:17.400 --> 00:02:32.179
Zoe Keeley: This'll be on Friday, June 26th, from 6.30 to 8.30 p.m. It'll
be in Cupertino Community Hall. Again, adults will be $15, kids and teens
will be $10, and our Senior Center members will be $5.
22
00:02:32.180 --> 00:02:37.010
Zoe Keeley: You can see the link at the bottom that will give you, any
more information about our event.
23
00:02:37.010 --> 00:02:56.010
Zoe Keeley: But I do want to propose a question to our Teen Commission,
just for brainstorm of… we're always looking for exciting themes for our
upcoming Disco at Dusk, so any in the future, if any of you have ideas
for themes, today or in the future, it'd be really great to get your
input for, you know, something… we love to do exciting themes, so…
24
00:02:56.010 --> 00:03:03.880
Zoe Keeley: We had… our last year's theme was, international, and then
the year before that was Barbie, so just some ideas, and would be great
to get your guys' input.
25
00:03:08.780 --> 00:03:21.799
Zoe Keeley: And then the second program I'd like to highlight is our
volunteer techie teams. So this is a volunteer program. It is a great
opportunity for our teams to help members of our 50-plus community and
help with their… building their technological skills.
26
00:03:21.800 --> 00:03:33.420
Zoe Keeley: These teen volunteers will work one-on-one with our older
adults and helping with everyday tech questions, kind of helping with
apps on their emails, or just anything, to do with any of their devices.
27
00:03:33.730 --> 00:03:50.960
Zoe Keeley: So currently, the timeline, applications are currently open
for this volunteer program. Applications will be due on Friday, March
27th at 4pm, and this application will have a, supplemental questions as
well as an interview process, which will be scheduled in early April.
28
00:03:51.090 --> 00:04:02.630
Zoe Keeley: The program will run from June 10th to August 7th, and the
link is there below, which will have any information that you're curious
about, about the program, as well as the application link.
29
00:04:04.860 --> 00:04:09.159
Zoe Keeley: Are there any questions or concerns about either of these
events?
30
00:04:17.630 --> 00:04:29.119
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): I think she asked, I think she asked
about, suggestions. How does that? Yeah, so first you'll open it for
questions from the commissioners, and then you'll open it for public
comment.
31
00:04:29.122 --> 00:04:33.711
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): And then you'll go to comments, and that's
probably when they make suggestions.
32
00:04:33.715 --> 00:04:40.114
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, thank you for the presentation. I
will now open up to commissioners for any clarifying questions on the
presentation.
33
00:04:42.415 --> 00:04:43.505
Quinlan Conf Room: Oh.
34
00:04:43.595 --> 00:04:48.855
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): So, I was just wondering, how many teens
go to the Disco at Dusk event? Like.
35
00:04:48.860 --> 00:04:53.529
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): what's, like, the average, like, turnout?
That was, like, last year, for example.
36
00:04:54.770 --> 00:05:07.439
Zoe Keeley: So this… I actually did start in January, so this'll be my
first time running this event. I can definitely get those numbers for you
from my supervisor, Alex, and get back to you with what the demographic
looked like, from our last event last year.
37
00:05:08.490 --> 00:05:16.980
Zoe Keeley: But if you saw with those photos, there were… all ages were
there, so we had a lot of senior members, we had lots of groups of teens,
as well as parents and their children as well.
38
00:05:17.890 --> 00:05:19.320
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, thank you.
39
00:05:23.090 --> 00:05:26.470
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): What is the main way you work between the
disc…
40
00:05:28.630 --> 00:05:30.380
Zoe Keeley: Could you repeat the question?
41
00:05:31.010 --> 00:05:34.329
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): What is the main way you market the
discipline?
42
00:05:36.410 --> 00:05:52.319
Zoe Keeley: main way we market. So we have been including it in our, our
brochures, so we do have, with the Parks and Recreation Department, we do
have our seasonal brochures, as well as, social media, and then also kind
of just around our facilities as well that are open to the public.
43
00:06:00.010 --> 00:06:09.219
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): If there are no more questions, I will now
open public comment on this item. Staff, do we have any speaker cards or
a hand raised on Zoom for this item? We have no speakers.
44
00:06:09.410 --> 00:06:12.469
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Seeing no speakers, I will now close
public comments.
45
00:06:13.790 --> 00:06:16.960
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Shh.
46
00:06:17.120 --> 00:06:25.519
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, I'll open up to commissioners for
any last comments on the presentation, so any suggestions for the themes,
I suppose?
47
00:06:29.290 --> 00:06:31.179
Quinlan Conf Room: Themes for Let's just go night, man?
48
00:06:35.520 --> 00:06:38.490
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Little Chinese.
49
00:06:41.150 --> 00:06:43.310
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, you guys are welcome, Oka.
50
00:06:43.315 --> 00:06:48.674
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Wait, I didn't really hear, like, the full
presentation, but maybe, like, Y2K themed, sort of?
51
00:06:56.540 --> 00:06:58.489
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): And you guys can,
52
00:06:58.920 --> 00:07:04.000
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Email me if you think it's something that
would be a good theme, and I'll make sure to get that to Zoe.
53
00:07:05.020 --> 00:07:06.280
Quinlan Conf Room: Destiny's Child.
54
00:07:08.500 --> 00:07:10.039
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Big headphones.
55
00:07:14.530 --> 00:07:18.220
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Could you repeat the previous examples of
themes?
56
00:07:18.910 --> 00:07:27.970
Zoe Keeley: Yes, so our last year theme was, international. So we had the
stations where there was a Bollywood station, and kind of just, like,
getting different genres of music.
57
00:07:27.970 --> 00:07:46.610
Zoe Keeley: And then the year before that was Barbie-themed, so
everything was pink, we had, like, you know, the Barbie font, and
everyone… that was a really… that was a big hit, and everyone was able
to, you know, dress up for the event, so… something as iconic as Barbie
is, you know, really great to, you know, with decorations and getting the
community to come out and, you know, kind of just join and really enjoy
that night.
58
00:07:56.460 --> 00:08:00.489
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, I suppose we'll email you if we
have any suggestions.
59
00:08:00.700 --> 00:08:07.670
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you all. We will now move on to the
next item of business on the agenda. Alright, thank you for… thank you
for the presentation.
60
00:08:07.670 --> 00:08:20.720
Zoe Keeley: Yes, thank you for your taking your time, and yeah, again,
you can email Sonya with those, brainstorm ideas, you know, that can be
from years on out, so yeah, when they come, you know, if they pop in your
head, just shoot her an email and
61
00:08:20.720 --> 00:08:28.099
Zoe Keeley: We'll definitely think about it. Thank you for your time, and
for… and you can email me with any questions about, the event or the
Techie Teen program.
62
00:08:28.570 --> 00:08:30.180
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, thank you. Thank you.
63
00:08:33.260 --> 00:08:34.080
Quinlan Conf Room: Okay.
64
00:08:34.610 --> 00:08:47.639
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Our next subject is the California
Association of Youth Commissions presentation, the Recommended Actions
presentation on California Association of Youth Commissions surveys and
Conference from Anya Dalal.
65
00:08:50.380 --> 00:08:53.750
Anya Dalal: Yeah, hi, I'm Anya,
66
00:08:54.670 --> 00:08:57.879
Anya Dalal: I guess I'll share my screen.
67
00:08:58.340 --> 00:09:00.450
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Adam, would you like me to share it for
you?
68
00:09:00.450 --> 00:09:01.879
Anya Dalal: Oh yeah, that'd be great.
69
00:09:02.190 --> 00:09:02.870
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay.
70
00:09:04.800 --> 00:09:06.089
Anya Dalal: Give me one sec.
71
00:09:16.690 --> 00:09:17.480
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay.
72
00:09:19.860 --> 00:09:31.589
Anya Dalal: Okay, thank you. Yeah, so I'm Anya, I am a junior in high
school, and I live in, like, near San Francisco, and so I…
73
00:09:31.590 --> 00:09:44.879
Anya Dalal: am here from the California Association of Youth Commissions
to talk a little bit about what CAYC is, and what initiatives we're
currently involved in, and how, the Cupertino Teen Commission can also
get involved.
74
00:09:45.110 --> 00:09:46.510
Anya Dalal: So…
75
00:09:46.640 --> 00:09:58.729
Anya Dalal: Yeah, so just some, like, background on what CUIC is. It is a
statewide organization that connects youth commissions across California
to share best practices, collaborate on initiatives.
76
00:09:58.730 --> 00:10:07.170
Anya Dalal: and enhance the well-being of young people in their
communities. And it is the first statewide consortium of local youth
commissions in the U.S.
77
00:10:10.670 --> 00:10:25.170
Anya Dalal: So some of our missions include, as I said previously, just,
creating a network of youth commissions throughout the state. Another one
is to be, a voice to influence legislation affecting youth.
78
00:10:25.170 --> 00:10:40.020
Anya Dalal: And to share resources, best practices, and support one
another, in their efforts to empower young people. And then another thing
we focus on is helping towns that don't have them to start youth
commissions.
79
00:10:40.160 --> 00:10:48.869
Anya Dalal: And yeah, by identifying these barriers, we aim to develop
strategies to encourage the formation and sustainability of youth
commissions across all communities.
80
00:10:50.660 --> 00:10:58.920
Anya Dalal: So now, like, I'm gonna talk a little bit about what we're
currently doing. One issue that is really affecting
81
00:10:58.920 --> 00:11:12.159
Anya Dalal: a lot of, cities across California, as you all probably know,
is e-bike safety, so we are… we've been distributing this e-bike safety
survey,
82
00:11:12.780 --> 00:11:17.540
Anya Dalal: throughout California to youth commissions, and we're,
83
00:11:19.020 --> 00:11:25.600
Anya Dalal: Just, like, getting data, from youth about how they use e-
bikes and,
84
00:11:25.810 --> 00:11:43.339
Anya Dalal: Yeah, we hope to, share this with our local assembly members,
and we were also hoping that you guys would be able to distribute it if
this is something you'd be interested in, and, if it aligns with, like,
your priorities as we're trying to gather as much data as possible.
85
00:11:43.340 --> 00:11:47.570
Anya Dalal: So, yeah, like, the… this is the flyer, and…
86
00:11:47.570 --> 00:11:52.729
Anya Dalal: If you are interested, I could also send a little bit more
information and,
87
00:11:52.930 --> 00:11:59.220
Anya Dalal: we'll have a raffle at the end, for a $100 Amazon gift card,
88
00:12:00.280 --> 00:12:02.230
Anya Dalal: For the people that,
89
00:12:04.070 --> 00:12:24.050
Anya Dalal: submitted. Yeah, and then another thing that's sort of
similar is an e-bike video contest, also aimed at just promoting e-bike
safety. So it's just a 30-second video that people can submit, and we
have a cash prize of $500, and the deadline is March 18th. So, again, if
this is something you guys would be interested in sharing,
90
00:12:24.200 --> 00:12:25.880
Anya Dalal: We would love for that as well.
91
00:12:27.740 --> 00:12:34.980
Anya Dalal: And then the final thing is a, conference that we're hosting
in…
92
00:12:35.140 --> 00:12:50.200
Anya Dalal: about a week or so. It's a statewide virtual conference, and
we have, various different speakers in policy making, AI, and then we
also have youth-led workshops where
93
00:12:50.490 --> 00:12:52.990
Anya Dalal: Commissioners, or, like.
94
00:12:53.280 --> 00:13:03.650
Anya Dalal: full commissions are hosting workshops, on a variety of
different topics, so if this is something any of you all would be
interested in doing, you can also let me know.
95
00:13:04.120 --> 00:13:21.599
Anya Dalal: some examples that we've had in the past and that we're, also
holding for this conference include, a workshop about, like, AI in
education, climate change, the California budget process, housing,
96
00:13:22.000 --> 00:13:27.840
Anya Dalal: at our previous conference, we had a workshop from the
Silicon Valley Water
97
00:13:28.020 --> 00:13:46.069
Anya Dalal: like, team, and they kind of talked about what they did. So,
that's another possibility, and then, we have a youth commission idea
exchange during the conference, in which youth commissions are bringing
different ideas, for initiatives, advice.
98
00:13:46.210 --> 00:13:55.570
Anya Dalal: questions, challenges, really anything Youth Commissions want
to share with others, and that will be one of the, segments that we will
be moderating as well.
99
00:13:55.950 --> 00:14:01.520
Anya Dalal: So yeah, I think… I think that's it for the conference, and
then…
100
00:14:02.040 --> 00:14:10.290
Anya Dalal: just to wrap some things up, we would love it if the
Cupertino Teen Commission would join CAYC,
101
00:14:10.470 --> 00:14:19.850
Anya Dalal: This would basically… this doesn't really require any
commitment, it's just, like, formally joining the network of youth
commissions, and
102
00:14:20.640 --> 00:14:27.090
Anya Dalal: Yeah, it's just, like, filling out a form, and then, we also
have a leadership team,
103
00:14:27.540 --> 00:14:31.550
Anya Dalal: That kind of works on the, like, behind-the-scenes stuff, of…
104
00:14:31.660 --> 00:14:42.680
Anya Dalal: Doing outreach, and conference planning, and newsletters,
social media, supporting towns and starting youth commissions, and,
105
00:14:42.940 --> 00:15:01.590
Anya Dalal: Yeah. Also, another thing you can get… another way you can
get involved is by writing a blog, really about any topic, and we would
post it on our blog page of a website. And yeah, we're always, looking to
influence legislation, whether that be through lobbying or,
106
00:15:01.690 --> 00:15:08.460
Anya Dalal: Going to, like, forums for assembly members, and yeah, so our
next…
107
00:15:08.710 --> 00:15:17.419
Anya Dalal: Our next meeting, our next conference is on March 21st, from
9am to 12.30, so…
108
00:15:17.800 --> 00:15:35.679
Anya Dalal: yeah, if, like, any… anything you heard today was
interesting, and something that you would want to get involved in,
definitely contact me or, check out our website. It has a lot of this
information as well. But yeah, that's it. Thank you guys, for making the
time for me to present, and
109
00:15:35.820 --> 00:15:39.209
Anya Dalal: Yeah, I'm open to answering any questions as well.
110
00:15:41.700 --> 00:15:48.250
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright. Thank you for the presentation. I
will now open it up to the commissioners for any clarifying questions on
the presentation.
111
00:15:49.950 --> 00:15:53.580
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): You mentioned that this is, like, flawed
by… this is more of a local.
112
00:15:53.585 --> 00:15:59.075
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): things, so you take a bunch of local
commissions and put them together. Like, how far are you going to expand?
113
00:16:00.200 --> 00:16:13.379
Anya Dalal: A lot of our youth commissions are currently, like, located
in the Bay Area, but we also have a few, like, member youth commissions
in Southern California and, San Diego. And then we're also
114
00:16:13.380 --> 00:16:22.430
Anya Dalal: helping, like, support the formation of a youth commission
in, like, the northern… very Northern California area, near, like.
115
00:16:22.530 --> 00:16:28.740
Anya Dalal: The city's called Hoopa Valley, and so, yeah, really just,
like.
116
00:16:29.070 --> 00:16:33.330
Anya Dalal: Basically, throughout the state, mostly on the coast, though.
117
00:16:34.420 --> 00:16:38.799
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Can I just have a point of clarification,
because,
118
00:16:39.250 --> 00:16:53.900
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): We had the presentation, and one of the
functions of that overall organization is to put commissions together,
but our, commission does not have the function, of the
119
00:16:53.980 --> 00:17:01.939
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): supporting legislation… legislation or
initiatives, so your advisory to staff, that you're kind of
120
00:17:02.050 --> 00:17:12.599
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): within City of Cupertino. So any kind of
involvement would be as an individual into some of the things that they
have the opportunity for individual involvement.
121
00:17:16.170 --> 00:17:18.329
Quinlan Conf Room: It sounds like you guys have a lot of.
122
00:17:18.335 --> 00:17:34.414
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): very exciting, initiatives coming up, such
as, the conference you were mentioning. I just wanted to ask a little bit
if you could tell us about some of your previous initiatives, and what
was, like, the… any sort of, like, measurable impact for those, for,
like, spreading awareness or anything?
123
00:17:35.360 --> 00:17:44.130
Anya Dalal: Yeah, so most of our previous initiatives have included
conferences, both in-person and virtual, and then,
124
00:17:45.610 --> 00:17:50.110
Anya Dalal: Like, lobbying for legislation. And,
125
00:17:51.000 --> 00:17:53.620
Anya Dalal: I don't know if we have, like, specific, like.
126
00:17:53.990 --> 00:17:57.049
Anya Dalal: Metrics to, like, measure that, but,
127
00:17:58.040 --> 00:18:01.660
Anya Dalal: Yeah. We've had, like, most of our conferences…
128
00:18:01.790 --> 00:18:09.380
Anya Dalal: on average, like, about 100 people, obviously more in person.
Yeah.
129
00:18:11.420 --> 00:18:12.599
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, thank you.
130
00:18:13.760 --> 00:18:16.000
Quinlan Conf Room: Yeah, so I guess it's…
131
00:18:16.280 --> 00:18:17.740
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): Superman.
132
00:18:18.410 --> 00:18:21.689
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): When collaborating with multiple youth,
she was like, one of the age.
133
00:18:21.690 --> 00:18:28.309
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): achieved in sales that they might not have
been able to achieve, just working by themselves. Do you have any
examples of that so far?
134
00:18:29.720 --> 00:18:31.840
Anya Dalal: Wait, sorry, could you repeat that?
135
00:18:32.090 --> 00:18:38.340
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): Sure, so my question was, working together
is, like, I would say,
136
00:18:39.380 --> 00:18:43.350
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): Well, about how this location is made.
137
00:18:45.460 --> 00:18:55.389
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): Sorry, I'll just repeat, but like,
basically my question is, how do multiple commissions work to do
something that they couldn't have done by themselves and independently?
138
00:18:55.520 --> 00:19:14.619
Anya Dalal: Yeah, yeah, so for example, I live, like, in a pretty small
town, and our… we just started our youth commission a few years ago, so
we don't have any funding. We also, like, don't really have any, like,
major, like, infrastructure in our town, so by working with, the towns
near us, they can help provide, like, venues.
139
00:19:14.620 --> 00:19:18.330
Anya Dalal: And, funding, and that… and overall, just, like.
140
00:19:18.650 --> 00:19:25.910
Anya Dalal: advertise the event to more people, so we get, like, a bigger
turnout, and then also just,
141
00:19:26.630 --> 00:19:31.370
Anya Dalal: like, another example is… in Palo Alto, there was, like,
this,
142
00:19:31.720 --> 00:19:38.779
Anya Dalal: initiative that they had, and then, like, our youth
commission was pretty inspired by it, so we had a similar event.
143
00:19:39.450 --> 00:19:43.420
Anya Dalal: And we just kind of, like, got advice from them. Yeah.
144
00:19:46.570 --> 00:19:51.679
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): You mentioned that you guys helped pass
legislation. Do you have any examples of said legislation?
145
00:19:52.100 --> 00:19:57.489
Anya Dalal: Oh, no, we haven't, like, helped pass legislation. We do
lobby for legislation, though.
146
00:19:58.400 --> 00:20:00.630
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): What legislations have you lobbied for?
147
00:20:01.290 --> 00:20:14.680
Anya Dalal: I'm not part of the legislation… team, but… I think it was…
Climate…
148
00:20:15.350 --> 00:20:24.660
Anya Dalal: I forget what the name was, but it had to do with, like,
climate change and polluters. And then more recently, there was one that
they were lobbying about, for mental health.
149
00:20:28.580 --> 00:20:34.530
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): Quick question about the survey and the
video contest. So these are, like.
150
00:20:34.530 --> 00:20:47.649
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): specifically about e-bikes. I was
wondering, like, what's the thought process behind, like, e-bikes
specifically? Like, not just, like, I don't know, biking or, like, other
methods of transportation?
151
00:20:48.680 --> 00:20:57.309
Anya Dalal: Yeah, that's a good question. Yeah, there definitely are,
like, like, e-scooters, regular bikes, cars that are…
152
00:20:57.640 --> 00:21:02.270
Anya Dalal: pretty, like, dangerous as well. This was…
153
00:21:02.590 --> 00:21:17.529
Anya Dalal: I think, like, a lot of, legislators have kind of, like,
picked e-bikes as the source of the issues, and, in, like, my community,
there have been a lot of, like, accidents and deaths, and, like, they
all,
154
00:21:18.650 --> 00:21:28.569
Anya Dalal: are, like, caused by e-bikes, so I think that's, like, a big
thing, and also just because e-bikes have, a really… they're really heavy
due to the motors.
155
00:21:28.670 --> 00:21:35.919
Anya Dalal: And, like, traditional bikes are not as heavy, so they're a
lot more… Like, drastic effects with them.
156
00:21:38.660 --> 00:21:44.749
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you. One thing about, like, the,
like, video contest and stuff, I saw.
157
00:21:44.750 --> 00:21:50.579
Speaker 7 (Quinlan Conf Room): So you have, like, prize money, right?
Where exactly do you get the prize money from?
158
00:21:51.540 --> 00:21:59.630
Anya Dalal: Yeah, we have, like, community donations, and yeah, also
just, like, donations from other people.
159
00:22:00.110 --> 00:22:03.490
Anya Dalal: To our organization, because we're also, like, a non-profit.
160
00:22:06.520 --> 00:22:12.389
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Is CVAYC an organization officially
affiliated with the state of California?
161
00:22:12.760 --> 00:22:14.989
Anya Dalal: No, we're not officially affiliated.
162
00:22:18.980 --> 00:22:24.410
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): I'd like to ask, you mentioned, like,
there's a legislative team. What other sections…
163
00:22:25.740 --> 00:22:35.590
Anya Dalal: Yeah, so we have, 6, like, main teams. It includes outreach,
a team for, like, youth commission establishment support,
164
00:22:35.730 --> 00:22:40.959
Anya Dalal: communications, finance, conference planning, and then
legislation.
165
00:22:47.070 --> 00:22:48.229
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh, it's R, no more.
166
00:22:48.230 --> 00:23:02.569
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Questions, I will now open public comment
on this item. Staff, do we have any speaker cards or hands raised on Zoom
for this item? We have no speakers this year. Alright. Seeing no
speakers, I will now close public comments and open it up to
commissioners for any last comments on the presentation.
167
00:23:05.690 --> 00:23:12.039
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, seeing no last comments, thank
you all. We will now move on to the next item of business on the agenda.
Thank you for presenting.
168
00:23:12.040 --> 00:23:12.909
Anya Dalal: Thank you!
169
00:23:17.870 --> 00:23:27.259
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): All right, now we will move on to the
approval of minutes. Next subject is the approval of minutes from
February 11th, 2025. The recommended action is to review and approve
minutes from
170
00:23:27.710 --> 00:23:30.109
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): On February 11th, 2026.
171
00:24:46.800 --> 00:24:48.060
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Brittany Beagley.
172
00:24:50.210 --> 00:24:53.339
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Last page. So when we get past 5.
173
00:24:54.200 --> 00:24:57.040
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): And just read… read the subject.
174
00:24:57.810 --> 00:24:59.529
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): So the last is Skeet's info.
175
00:24:59.530 --> 00:25:03.139
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): When we get there, I'll give you this, and
we'll just read.
176
00:25:03.145 --> 00:25:07.674
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): topic, and we'll go from here. Don't see
the hoses.
177
00:25:07.965 --> 00:25:10.945
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh, just mine. Okay, cool.
178
00:25:12.065 --> 00:25:13.045
Quinlan Conf Room: Nevermind.
179
00:25:13.165 --> 00:25:13.864
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): You too.
180
00:25:15.910 --> 00:25:17.370
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Is everyone reading?
181
00:25:18.310 --> 00:25:22.570
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): All right. Are there any clarifying
questions or amendments to the meetings?
182
00:25:25.080 --> 00:25:33.489
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Seeing none, if there are no more
questions, I will now open public comment on this item. Staff, do we have
any speaker cards or hands raised on Zoom for this item? We have no
speakers.
183
00:25:33.495 --> 00:25:33.975
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): It's true.
184
00:25:33.975 --> 00:25:34.535
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Correct.
185
00:25:34.715 --> 00:25:43.184
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Seeing no speakers, I will now close
public comment and invite a motion on the minutes. I would like to
entertain a motion to approve the February 11 minutes.
186
00:25:45.165 --> 00:25:48.855
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Motion to approve, February 11th, please.
187
00:25:49.505 --> 00:25:53.295
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): That was Commissioner Gao. Thank you for
the motion. Do you have a seconder for this motion?
188
00:25:56.395 --> 00:25:57.995
Quinlan Conf Room: I second this session.
189
00:25:57.995 --> 00:25:59.935
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Dr. Halamby, thank you for a second.
190
00:26:00.705 --> 00:26:03.024
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, vote. Lindsay, can you conduct a
vote?
191
00:26:03.215 --> 00:26:04.565
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Commissioner Hsu?
192
00:26:05.435 --> 00:26:06.995
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Commissioner Paposh?
193
00:26:07.145 --> 00:26:08.025
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Aye.
194
00:26:09.240 --> 00:26:10.320
Quinlan Conf Room: Commissioner Lau?
195
00:26:11.740 --> 00:26:15.130
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Commissioner Kumar? Aye. Commissioner
Halamby?
196
00:26:15.130 --> 00:26:15.810
Speaker 9 (Quinlan Conf Room): Bye.
197
00:26:15.930 --> 00:26:17.709
Speaker 9 (Quinlan Conf Room): Commissioner Gao? Aye.
198
00:26:17.980 --> 00:26:19.360
Speaker 9 (Quinlan Conf Room): Commissioner Dashma?
199
00:26:20.040 --> 00:26:23.699
Speaker 9 (Quinlan Conf Room): Vice Chair Liu? Aye. The motion carries
unanimously.
200
00:26:24.550 --> 00:26:31.020
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you all. We will now move on to the
next item of business on the agenda. Now postponements…
201
00:26:31.930 --> 00:26:34.499
Quinlan Conf Room: We'll now move on to oral communications.
202
00:26:34.580 --> 00:26:37.950
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Staff, do we have any members of the
public that would like to speak?
203
00:26:39.520 --> 00:26:41.539
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): We have no speakers, Vice Chair.
204
00:26:41.800 --> 00:26:47.739
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Seeing no speakers, I will now close oral
communications. There is no old business.
205
00:26:48.630 --> 00:26:50.250
Quinlan Conf Room: Okay, on to new business.
206
00:26:51.180 --> 00:26:58.509
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): The subject is the Teen Speaker Series
topics, and the recommended action is to solicit feedback on Team Speaker
Series topics for 2026.
207
00:27:05.440 --> 00:27:09.940
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): It's me today. Yay! Hello, everybody! I'm
Mr. Robert.
208
00:27:09.940 --> 00:27:10.760
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): department.
209
00:27:11.030 --> 00:27:16.100
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you for having me tonight, Team
Commission. Tonight wanted to present
210
00:27:16.340 --> 00:27:20.720
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Kind of a recap on Team Speaker Series
from November.
211
00:27:21.020 --> 00:27:26.379
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And kind of ask for guidance on the next
year of this series.
212
00:27:26.530 --> 00:27:28.529
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): So, for tonight, we'll just…
213
00:27:28.970 --> 00:27:37.129
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And also, all my presentations, just
spoiler alert, it's going to kind of be in this format. So it's going to
be an overview, this little recap, little discussion, okay?
214
00:27:39.060 --> 00:27:40.060
Quinlan Conf Room: So…
215
00:27:40.250 --> 00:27:47.150
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): in, like, just last November, 4 months
ago now, I guess?
216
00:27:48.350 --> 00:28:02.339
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): we launched Team Speaker Series. We did
run kind of a prototype version of this before we did one instance of it.
It wasn't quite a series then. But in November, we successfully launched,
217
00:28:02.690 --> 00:28:11.909
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Team Speaker Series with the aims of
connecting Cupertino teams with professionals and experts to explore
important real-world topics.
218
00:28:14.290 --> 00:28:28.759
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): In November, we did college planning on
November 1st, and that was, your fellow team commissioner, Sumeda,
hosting that one. Then on November 15th, we did Financial Literacy,
hosted by Harley Liu.
219
00:28:28.890 --> 00:28:47.109
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): sorry, I should say MCAT. The Youth
Activity Board planned and hosted this event, but these two were also
instrumental in emceeing these events, being kind of the… being the face
of it. Closing it out on November 22, the tech career paths, we had,
Samita, again, bookend.
220
00:28:47.330 --> 00:28:48.760
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): the event.
221
00:28:51.890 --> 00:28:56.589
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Also, just to kind of add before this,
too, this was, you know.
222
00:28:57.080 --> 00:29:09.300
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): kind of a low-key one-hour event in the
Quinton Community Center's social room here. And I would say for, our
first instance of this, we had about 20 to 30
223
00:29:09.640 --> 00:29:16.900
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Teens and parents on some of these
events, because parents were also intrigued by certain topics, like
college painting.
224
00:29:16.910 --> 00:29:30.009
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): But for an event we just started, a free…
a free event for teens that we ran on Saturdays in November, we were
delighted to have 20 to 30,
225
00:29:30.190 --> 00:29:46.370
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): of your fellow, Cooper Town teams show up
for this event. And our team commissioner MCs did a fantastic job of, of,
presenting, and Yab did a fantastic job of,
226
00:29:46.860 --> 00:30:02.060
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): putting it together. So, we're very
excited to have it. We're excited to have it again next year, make this
kind of a mainstay of our… our team programming. So, really, what we're
here tonight to ask is kind of like, let's talk about more topics.
227
00:30:02.130 --> 00:30:11.699
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): or new topics for next year, or are some
of the topics we already presented evergreen? Like, should we be doing
college planning every year, just because that's obviously…
228
00:30:11.970 --> 00:30:17.110
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): an important thing for students, right?
They wanted… they're looking to that next step.
229
00:30:17.870 --> 00:30:25.329
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, we could always do it with… we
could always do the same topics with different guest speakers, we could
always do different questions, like…
230
00:30:26.040 --> 00:30:33.690
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): You know, coming out of it, was there
some, like, some subtopics that we felt were… we could expand upon with
new people?
231
00:30:34.080 --> 00:30:54.050
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): That's what I'm here to kind of ask of
you guys and have you discuss. This series, as a reminder, the topics
that we had this year was brought to us by Team Commission, the year
prior, I believe, so some of you might not remember that because you're
new commissioners, but, I know our vets were here for guiding us on some
of those
232
00:30:54.250 --> 00:30:58.810
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Some of these initial topics, but, so
we're bringing it back to you again.
233
00:30:59.040 --> 00:31:03.250
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Want to know what your feedback is, want
to know what you think about it going forward.
234
00:31:04.530 --> 00:31:11.809
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay. Thank you for the report. I will now
open it up for two commissioners for any clarifying questions on the
report.
235
00:31:15.420 --> 00:31:21.910
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, if there are no more questions, I
will now open public comment on this item. Lindsay, do we have any
speaker cards or hands raised on Zoom for this item?
236
00:31:22.200 --> 00:31:28.709
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): We have no speakers, Vice Chair. Alright,
seeing no speakers, I will now close public comment and open this item up
to discussion and comments.
237
00:31:30.200 --> 00:31:38.270
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, so speaking from, like, my past
experience from seeing the past two events, I noticed that the college
planning one, it was…
238
00:31:38.270 --> 00:32:01.600
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): pretty big. Like, I know, like, I was
hearing, like, since it's a new event, they weren't expecting as much
turnout, but there ended up being, like, a lot of actual, like, teens and
parents attending, lots of, like, familiar faces, and, a lot of people,
like, stayed back for, like, a while as well to ask questions, and, I
think if we have something like college planning as something
reoccurring, that would be really good.
239
00:32:01.600 --> 00:32:13.780
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): because, like, even personally, to me,
like, when, like, asking questions and such, it, like, helped me reassure
myself a lot for the college planning process, and I guess, like, for
subtopics, they mainly focused more on
240
00:32:13.780 --> 00:32:29.209
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): like, the essay writing, creating your
own, like, personal story, which I thought was really insightful. One
thing I noticed for, like, the tech event is, it wasn't, like, I feel
like it was more, like, a lot of, like, parents showing up.
241
00:32:29.210 --> 00:32:43.309
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): like, a few, like, teens there showed up
as well. But, yeah, like, not as many people stayed back for questions,
but I think if we have, like, something similar to, like, career
planning, that would be good. Maybe, going out, like, maybe broadening
it.
242
00:32:43.310 --> 00:32:53.330
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): beyond just tech careers, maybe, like,
other, like, maybe STEM careers in general, or just, like, having a more,
like, diverse set of careers for people thinking about such things.
243
00:32:53.380 --> 00:32:55.379
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, that would be good.
244
00:32:55.560 --> 00:32:57.500
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, thank you.
245
00:32:57.500 --> 00:32:57.890
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Love it.
246
00:32:59.085 --> 00:33:03.645
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, I agree with, Commissioner Kamara's.
247
00:33:03.650 --> 00:33:12.290
Speaker 11 (Quinlan Conf Room): idea of having, like, more career app,
like, options, because I think that, first of all, like, having
248
00:33:12.580 --> 00:33:26.530
Speaker 11 (Quinlan Conf Room): people share their experiences and their
jobs helps me realize what I want to do, so if we could have people who
can, like, share their experience, or talk about, like, what led them to,
like, do the job they're doing right now, I think that'd be very helpful.
249
00:33:27.490 --> 00:33:40.430
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): To expand that a bit more, I think college
planning, I think, should be an evergreen one. On career, I was thinking
perhaps it just, had more, like, more general categories. I think,
medical, perhaps, is a very popular one.
250
00:33:40.540 --> 00:33:45.169
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Tech itself might be a bit more general,
perhaps more specific sections of tech,
251
00:33:45.400 --> 00:33:48.670
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): For instance, robotics, aerospace,
biotech.
252
00:33:48.820 --> 00:33:59.349
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Example, so just have… perhaps you can
split among more… multiple sections, so invite, like, professionals from
each field to talk with… or just give presentations, like,
253
00:33:59.500 --> 00:34:15.459
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): one session might be, like, med bio, like,
invite some doctors, whatever different types of… different… whatever
different types of doctors there are, maybe, like, biotech people come to
talk, and then another session may be more, like, engineering-focused,
like, semiconductor industry, robotics.
254
00:34:15.500 --> 00:34:20.830
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): And then perhaps, more so, I don't know,
like, legal law, stuff like that?
255
00:34:22.020 --> 00:34:22.750
Quinlan Conf Room: Oh.
256
00:34:23.460 --> 00:34:24.400
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Appreciate it.
257
00:34:24.620 --> 00:34:28.059
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Kinda sounds like… Narrating that and
having niche…
258
00:34:28.719 --> 00:34:38.360
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): career… when it comes to career paths,
might be more exciting, because it's like, oh man, those that are
specifically into robotics, into…
259
00:34:38.489 --> 00:34:39.469
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I'm…
260
00:34:39.710 --> 00:34:46.700
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): biomed, kind of like your sister, right?
Would love to come out and hear more about that. It might… it might hear
about…
261
00:34:47.190 --> 00:34:52.869
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): general tech all the time, right? Parents
and friends and stuff, so… Okay. Awesome.
262
00:34:54.710 --> 00:34:58.969
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Anything specific you guys want to see
for next year?
263
00:34:59.080 --> 00:35:01.710
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Sounds like college planning should
probably just come back.
264
00:35:01.940 --> 00:35:08.380
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Maybe with different counselors, or maybe
with the same, and just pick a different part of the process to be
focused on.
265
00:35:08.580 --> 00:35:12.600
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): like, your application estimates.
266
00:35:13.070 --> 00:35:19.949
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Sorry, would you importing, but… Yeah,
anything, like, really specific that you guys think?
267
00:35:20.550 --> 00:35:22.170
Quinlan Conf Room: Yeah, I feel like…
268
00:35:23.040 --> 00:35:30.140
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): in terms of, like, the financial literacy
one, I feel like a lot of teens, especially, like, from my experience.
269
00:35:30.410 --> 00:35:32.829
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): There are a lot of associates of…
270
00:35:33.440 --> 00:35:38.320
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): Marketing, finance, governments, a whole
lot, so, like…
271
00:35:38.460 --> 00:35:44.799
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): I guess, instead of something financial
literacy, we could opt for more, like, a complex version.
272
00:35:45.300 --> 00:35:48.569
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): Where it's basically the same career paths
you have.
273
00:35:48.730 --> 00:35:53.320
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): In terms of, like, business fields, like
business administration, Okay.
274
00:35:53.710 --> 00:35:55.060
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, we did.
275
00:35:55.060 --> 00:36:12.170
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): the very… that prototype team speaker
series I alluded to, the year before, we did business and
entrepreneurialism, and that one was kind of… that one was much lower
attendance, and I'm not sure if it was… you know, I'm not sure why. Maybe
it was… it couldn't be explained by maybe, like, marketing.
276
00:36:12.420 --> 00:36:14.260
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): He could have been bumped up.
277
00:36:14.730 --> 00:36:17.289
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): The wrong timing,
278
00:36:17.790 --> 00:36:24.050
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): But I do love the idea of doing something
like that, again, for sure, like, something to rotate back in, right?
279
00:36:25.880 --> 00:36:28.189
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I think something that's also been, like.
280
00:36:28.190 --> 00:36:44.169
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): increasingly popular is, like, lots of,
like, teenagers and, like, high schoolers creating youth-led
organizations. So, if this doesn't, overlap too much with, like, the
career people, like, tech, like, the broader tech or, like, career
people, if maybe we could have, like.
281
00:36:44.170 --> 00:36:54.559
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): NGO, like, NGO owners, like, present about
their journey, give advice to, like, high schoolers who want to also
start their own business of some sorts, maybe? I'm not sure, but yeah.
282
00:36:54.630 --> 00:36:55.310
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): Cool.
283
00:37:04.000 --> 00:37:06.130
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): I had to look up NGO real quick.
284
00:37:06.130 --> 00:37:10.650
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, cool.
285
00:37:11.950 --> 00:37:25.549
Speaker 11 (Quinlan Conf Room): Maybe life skills, like, that they don't
teach in school, because I know, like, a lot of teens, when they grow up,
they don't know how to, like, file taxes or anything like that, and it'll
probably be boring, but I think it might help, especially since we don't
learn it.
286
00:37:30.440 --> 00:37:43.199
Speaker 7 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh, I think, like, focusing in on more of
those niche topics that school doesn't really cover, like, maybe, how to
manage your credit score when you grow older, like, stuff like that,
it'll really help you, like, succeed in the world.
287
00:37:44.470 --> 00:37:45.360
Quinlan Conf Room: Thank you.
288
00:37:48.200 --> 00:37:48.939
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Come back.
289
00:37:55.050 --> 00:38:06.989
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay. I have a bit of, like, a question.
So, when they do these teen speaker series, do they only speak? Like, I
think it would be really helpful if we had, like, a workshop aspect to
it, where we can, like.
290
00:38:07.410 --> 00:38:14.250
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): especially during the college class,
right, like, have time to read the later essay when you take a good book,
a great story. I think that would be really helpful.
291
00:38:24.470 --> 00:38:25.630
Quinlan Conf Room: That's an example.
292
00:38:33.670 --> 00:38:36.089
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Ben? Looks like it. Okay.
293
00:38:36.300 --> 00:38:49.870
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you for the presentation. Thank you
all, and I think we will now move on to the next item of business on the
agenda. Next, the subject is pizza and politics. The recommended action
is to solicit feedback on pizza and politics for 2026.
294
00:38:55.070 --> 00:39:00.250
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I'm just gonna swivel my chair, and then
I'll turn back around like I'm a new person.
295
00:39:00.640 --> 00:39:02.730
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you to the commission for having
me.
296
00:39:03.040 --> 00:39:04.560
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Name's Robert Coffin.
297
00:39:07.100 --> 00:39:10.880
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): on pizza and politics. I don't think some
of you
298
00:39:11.340 --> 00:39:15.009
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I don't think most of you… I'm not sure.
299
00:39:15.820 --> 00:39:20.960
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): like I said, second format, we'll go over
overview, Talk about past segment.
300
00:39:21.450 --> 00:39:29.559
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): pretty much same presentation I did for
Team Speaker Series, but now for Pizza and Politics, which is returning
this year.
301
00:39:30.520 --> 00:39:31.820
Quinlan Conf Room: Continue the next slide, please.
302
00:39:33.110 --> 00:39:39.339
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): So, kind of a brief history on pizza and
Politics. It was launched in 2016, it was a joint…
303
00:39:39.530 --> 00:39:53.790
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): teen civic engagement event between, the
City of Cupertino, City of Saratoga, later joined by City of Campbell.
This is a biannual event time to coincide with the election season.
304
00:39:54.050 --> 00:39:57.240
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And so that's this year, it's coming back
for,
305
00:39:57.410 --> 00:40:03.999
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We're looking to bring it back in
October. We kind of historically done it in October sometime.
306
00:40:04.410 --> 00:40:12.110
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): The goal is to get teams such as
yourselves, engaged civically while offering free pig pizza as an
incentive to
307
00:40:12.390 --> 00:40:14.290
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Bring y'all out to the event.
308
00:40:14.410 --> 00:40:21.659
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Activities include interactive
discussions, mock debates, Q&A sessions.
309
00:40:23.340 --> 00:40:25.320
Quinlan Conf Room: Some of our past segments…
310
00:40:25.780 --> 00:40:29.549
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): are, historically, we've done a mayor's
311
00:40:29.810 --> 00:40:34.689
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Roundtable. Last year, we did a Teen
Commissioner's Roundtable for the first time.
312
00:40:34.800 --> 00:40:42.180
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We've done the FUHSD Board of Trustees
panel,
313
00:40:42.320 --> 00:40:47.510
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Kind of like a forum debate panel between
the, the different.
314
00:40:48.140 --> 00:40:51.060
Quinlan Conf Room: Candidates for the 3HSD Board of Trustees.
315
00:40:51.060 --> 00:41:07.319
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And then we've also done, like, a team
debate a few times, which is we had team debate teams… we had teams from,
various schools within the FUHSD, school district, come out and just do,
like, a kind of a mock debate on…
316
00:41:07.850 --> 00:41:10.869
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): you know, a pressing topic, I think, last
year.
317
00:41:11.100 --> 00:41:20.850
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We did, I think it was the EV vehicle
bill, I think we talked about that. Not last year, but last election
cycle.
318
00:41:21.230 --> 00:41:33.710
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We've also had other niggles to also have
other, kind of, like, dignitaries or politicians that you may be
interested in, kind of, being able to talk to, maybe ask questions to,
319
00:41:34.660 --> 00:41:40.520
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): So, you know, that being kind of, like,
mayors, local, local people, but, we've also had,
320
00:41:41.980 --> 00:41:42.990
Quinlan Conf Room: Good low.
321
00:41:43.250 --> 00:41:47.579
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): What's his name, right, Evan Lowe? At
Evan Lowe before,
322
00:41:48.560 --> 00:41:54.169
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): So just… just to kind of give you kind of
a history of some of the different segments we've had at this event.
323
00:41:55.680 --> 00:42:03.060
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And like I said, we bring this event back
this year in October. We're kind of looking to change things up a little
bit.
324
00:42:03.530 --> 00:42:06.140
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Looking ahead to this year, we're…
325
00:42:06.430 --> 00:42:08.790
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Potentially running this event solo.
326
00:42:08.910 --> 00:42:14.850
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): It is kind of a resource-heavy event, and
it's been kind of hard to
327
00:42:15.490 --> 00:42:18.800
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Have all three cities collaborate on this
event.
328
00:42:19.210 --> 00:42:21.290
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): In the past, but,
329
00:42:21.450 --> 00:42:28.290
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We're kind of planning on doing it just
with Cupertino this year, and so…
330
00:42:28.600 --> 00:42:31.640
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Potentially, some of the planning might
change, in terms of, like.
331
00:42:32.440 --> 00:42:33.310
Quinlan Conf Room: What?
332
00:42:33.310 --> 00:42:36.600
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): People we might have access to, but,
333
00:42:36.800 --> 00:42:42.210
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I don't want that to kind of stifle up
creativity in terms of, like, what possibilities for segments.
334
00:42:42.680 --> 00:42:52.310
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Once again, kind of looking for you, for
you guys to give us some feedback on what kind of topics, segments, or
activities you might like to see.
335
00:42:52.740 --> 00:43:03.100
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): you know, how would you want… if you've
been to the event before, how can we make the event more engaging and
relevant? I think this event has historically had about 60
336
00:43:03.420 --> 00:43:07.110
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Attendees show up for it, which is
awesome.
337
00:43:07.410 --> 00:43:14.619
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): But it is kind of like a high production
event, so we're hoping to boost those numbers. And we're wondering what
kind of…
338
00:43:14.940 --> 00:43:25.129
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): People or activities do you think is a
big draw for an event like this for teams? Especially, like, you know,
civil students, they might…
339
00:43:25.400 --> 00:43:28.480
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): You know, I think the easy thing is,
right, like.
340
00:43:28.680 --> 00:43:33.560
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh, offer extra credit incentives, but,
you know, how do we get…
341
00:43:33.930 --> 00:43:36.819
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Get you, kind of, exciting besides.
342
00:43:37.420 --> 00:43:43.290
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): extra credit incentives, right? We're
always looking for the actual, like, real-world experience.
343
00:43:43.590 --> 00:43:47.210
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): To grade you out, rather than just
something to kind of…
344
00:43:47.420 --> 00:43:49.839
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Get a little bonus fonts off of.
345
00:43:50.270 --> 00:43:52.300
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, so that's…
346
00:43:52.800 --> 00:43:54.129
Quinlan Conf Room: He's in politics.
347
00:43:55.500 --> 00:44:02.510
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, thank you for the presentation. I
will now open it up to commissioners for any clarifying questions on the
presentation.
348
00:44:04.980 --> 00:44:05.710
Quinlan Conf Room: Nope.
349
00:44:06.120 --> 00:44:14.060
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): There are… if there are no more questions,
I will now open public comment on this item. Lindsay, do we have any
speaker cards or hands raised on some of this item? We have no speakers.
350
00:44:14.065 --> 00:44:14.535
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): research.
351
00:44:15.010 --> 00:44:15.639
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you.
352
00:44:16.140 --> 00:44:21.289
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): seeing no speakers, I will now close
public comment and open this item up to discussion and comments.
353
00:44:26.555 --> 00:44:27.275
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): issue.
354
00:44:27.565 --> 00:44:30.835
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): I guess we suggested, like, what
activities could we run?
355
00:44:31.545 --> 00:44:37.015
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): style, where there's a bunch of people on
one side.
356
00:44:37.245 --> 00:44:42.235
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): And, like, one… I don't know, like, let's
say, like, somebody who's more against politics?
357
00:44:42.545 --> 00:44:45.005
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): I was gonna try to, like, gamified into,
like.
358
00:44:45.205 --> 00:44:47.205
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): There's lots of people chiming up.
359
00:44:48.265 --> 00:44:50.415
Quinlan Conf Room: It is from her singing about, like…
360
00:44:50.605 --> 00:44:53.774
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): Certain topic, basically, to incorporate
that as one of the things.
361
00:44:54.950 --> 00:44:55.510
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yep.
362
00:44:57.210 --> 00:44:59.740
Quinlan Conf Room: When you say that one person, you kind of, like.
363
00:45:00.700 --> 00:45:05.940
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): envision I mean, it doesn't have to be,
like, you know, like, a standard related, but, like.
364
00:45:06.090 --> 00:45:16.530
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): you mentioned, like, Team Commissioner
Roundtable, or FUHSD Board of Trustee Candidates. Yeah. They might be
more equipped to talk about some of these items.
365
00:45:16.960 --> 00:45:21.430
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): Based on their previous experiences, so we
could have them, sort of, as that one person.
366
00:45:22.510 --> 00:45:23.280
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Got it.
367
00:45:24.160 --> 00:45:25.540
Speaker 7 (Quinlan Conf Room): Hostilities?
368
00:45:25.760 --> 00:45:28.699
Speaker 7 (Quinlan Conf Room): Like, maybe, like, fast-paced…
369
00:45:29.870 --> 00:45:31.099
Quinlan Conf Room: 5 minutes.
370
00:45:31.100 --> 00:45:42.279
Speaker 7 (Quinlan Conf Room): You're given a random topic, and you're
forced to take a side, like, a positive, and you have to come up with
this side, and hardly for that.
371
00:45:42.710 --> 00:45:45.559
Speaker 7 (Quinlan Conf Room): This is the 5 minutes here for very little
time.
372
00:45:47.400 --> 00:45:51.479
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Well, that's kind of what the team debate
was. We give them, like, a subject ahead of time.
373
00:45:51.690 --> 00:45:56.930
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And we give them, like, two, you know, a
couple weeks to prepare, and then they do it in,
374
00:45:57.450 --> 00:46:04.720
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We have the name of the debate format,
but they were, like, competition, debaters. Is that kind of, like, what
you're suggesting?
375
00:46:05.190 --> 00:46:09.290
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Well, I was suggesting it's like, it all
happens…
376
00:46:09.585 --> 00:46:14.534
Speaker 7 (Quinlan Conf Room): the activity, but… like, fast pace, like…
Oh, okay.
377
00:46:15.200 --> 00:46:18.860
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): like, on the spot. Yeah, we've…
378
00:46:19.210 --> 00:46:22.539
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): talked about that before, and I feel
like,
379
00:46:22.680 --> 00:46:41.570
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): That is a recipe for chaos, a little bit.
It could be fun, for sure, but then, you know, your age group is, very
overt to, like, spontaneity, so the idea of, like… like, if I were to
call on you two right now to be a debate team, would you do it?
380
00:46:41.830 --> 00:46:47.300
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Probably not, right? So, it's kind of
hard, right? Because you try to have something, like, kind of high
product, like.
381
00:46:47.440 --> 00:46:51.000
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Fairly high production, and so…
382
00:46:51.650 --> 00:46:55.570
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Putting… putting audience members on the
spot like that can be kind of tough.
383
00:46:57.550 --> 00:47:08.219
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): But that does get me thinking, though, in
terms of, like, what can we do that's spontaneous? You know, for the most
part, we're usually, like, questions and answers segments.
384
00:47:09.140 --> 00:47:21.059
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, let me think. I'm not sure if this
might border, like, too political, but since it is an election year,
perhaps we could get, like, the candidates for, like, school board or
city council and have them, like, present themselves?
385
00:47:24.050 --> 00:47:26.200
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): I know something that's also been, like.
386
00:47:26.205 --> 00:47:42.745
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): popular within, like, teen involvement is,
like, recently there's been a lot of school lockouts with ICE and such,
and so, like, there's been a lot of, like, teen involvement in terms of
politics, so maybe, like, if, like, we have any, like, speakers or
politicians, we could even
387
00:47:42.745 --> 00:48:00.045
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): invite maybe some, like, school clubs,
like, school politics clubs to maybe, like, share about, like, their
experiences and, like, involvement in politics. Like, they could share
about maybe, like, the walkout experience, share how, like, other teams
could also be involved, such things like that.
388
00:48:00.050 --> 00:48:05.040
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah. Do you have any in mind that you're
thinking of when you, when you… Speaking of this?
389
00:48:05.160 --> 00:48:07.830
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I'm not sure, I think, like, there's a.
390
00:48:07.835 --> 00:48:17.205
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): couple of, like, politics clubs in our
school and, like, maybe in other schools, so maybe, like, this could be,
like, outreach for such clubs to participate in.
391
00:48:18.365 --> 00:48:21.065
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I also think, like, maybe… R.
392
00:48:21.655 --> 00:48:23.494
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Kind of on that topic, like…
393
00:48:26.745 --> 00:48:29.614
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I'm trying to think of, like, safe,
394
00:48:30.805 --> 00:48:37.845
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Like, how to civically engage, like, how
to have a walkout, how to kind of, like.
395
00:48:38.105 --> 00:48:48.585
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): have safe, protests, stuff like that,
like, with that, those kind of topics, or… or, like, a workshop, kind of
like we were talking about before, like, something like that, where it's…
396
00:48:48.945 --> 00:48:56.685
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): you know, people that have organized
these things, or people that are, you know, at least adjacent to
organizing these things? Do you think that would be kind of…
397
00:48:57.950 --> 00:49:00.690
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): engaging to your age group? I think that
would be pretty cool.
398
00:49:00.695 --> 00:49:10.075
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): pretty engaging. It doesn't have to be,
like, a professional, like, workshop, workshop, maybe something, like, on
the more casual side, but yeah, definitely something along those lines.
Gotcha.
399
00:49:11.550 --> 00:49:16.179
Speaker 11 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, I was thinking, like, activists,
like her. Okay, yeah, right.
400
00:49:23.120 --> 00:49:29.960
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Have we staged a walkout right now? No,
I'm just kidding. I think we already used up our one day.
401
00:49:30.590 --> 00:49:36.289
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Are none of those, like, that was, like,
the topics just one half the question? What was the other half of the
question that you were asking us? Oh, just, I mean.
402
00:49:36.295 --> 00:49:55.885
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): It's like there's topics, and there's
also segments, too, right? Because we do have to, like, put together a
show between scripting. It's, like, a much bigger version of Teen Speaker
Series, in terms of, like, scripting, like, inviting everybody,
confirming them, getting them kind of scheduled within the program. It's
a much bigger
403
00:49:56.285 --> 00:50:00.514
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Event in that regard, so it does require,
kind of like.
404
00:50:00.625 --> 00:50:08.434
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): segments as well, right? Like, not just
topics, like, maybe… maybe you guys are interested in, like, more
sustainability-related topics?
405
00:50:09.915 --> 00:50:18.814
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): It was just kind of a broad question. If
you guys are interested in sustainability, maybe we'd do something more
in line with sustainability, or if you maybe
406
00:50:18.855 --> 00:50:31.464
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): kind of like Sumita was already alluding
to, like, activism, protesting, that's… that seems to be something that's
pressing on the mind. But also, if you have any ideas for segments or
people that you want to see, like.
407
00:50:31.475 --> 00:50:39.204
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): maybe… maybe we throw out an invite to
Rokana and have, like, a Rokana question and answer, segment, you know.
408
00:50:39.545 --> 00:50:54.835
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): sky's kind of… sky's the limit in terms
of what we can reach for. That's… that's really what I'm just alluding
to, like, what I'm asking for you guys is, if you have any thoughts,
doesn't have to be right now, feel free to email myself or Sonya, after
this.
409
00:50:54.945 --> 00:51:01.395
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): like I said, the plan is October, and
even though that is kind of far away, this one takes a lot more,
410
00:51:02.185 --> 00:51:11.314
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): A lot more in terms of inviting and
confirmation, so that's why we start talking about it now, because it
takes a lot of… a lot of lead work to plan this one.
411
00:51:11.505 --> 00:51:15.694
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, that was kind of… My question to
you.
412
00:51:16.275 --> 00:51:17.345
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Mr. Lieb?
413
00:51:17.775 --> 00:51:18.525
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Right.
414
00:51:20.480 --> 00:51:30.840
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): I have to ask, are there surveys or, like,
some type of form where people who are not in the machine, or people
from, like, teams all around the team submit topics they want to hear
about?
415
00:51:31.730 --> 00:51:39.420
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I believe we… do… Shima? Not one that
I've… that I'm running.
416
00:51:40.830 --> 00:51:43.379
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We did have, like, a… we used to.
417
00:51:43.640 --> 00:51:55.550
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): We have one in our activity guide that's
very general, like, how are we doing, on our programs, and it's in our
recreation guide. It's a QR code that would bring you right to a survey.
418
00:51:56.495 --> 00:52:02.615
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): overall general one. In terms of peace
and politics specifically, after teen events, I often send out
419
00:52:03.105 --> 00:52:06.544
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Participant surveys to me that showed up.
420
00:52:06.795 --> 00:52:09.944
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And I'll just… I'll just say…
421
00:52:10.065 --> 00:52:24.074
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): your peers are notoriously quiet on my
surveys, so I haven't gotten much feedback directly from those that came
to the event in past years.
422
00:52:24.445 --> 00:52:31.645
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And that kind of open-ended, like, hey,
what do you guys want to see next time, is usually asked all those
questions on those surveys.
423
00:52:32.630 --> 00:52:46.030
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Perhaps since midterms, the California
gubernatorial elections governors? Right. Yeah. Not sure if there are
any, like, more famous local California state races that are worth paying
attention to.
424
00:52:46.690 --> 00:52:47.799
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): No, for sure.
425
00:52:52.660 --> 00:52:58.740
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, I think that's… And then give it to
me for a second. All right. All right.
426
00:52:59.520 --> 00:53:08.360
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Shortly, but alright. Thank you all, we'll
now move on to the next item of business on the agenda, though.
427
00:53:08.710 --> 00:53:09.229
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): And to be.
428
00:53:09.235 --> 00:53:16.495
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): Before we go on, we're looking at
probably… you're probably 5 minutes on that item, 5 to 10?
429
00:53:16.495 --> 00:53:17.325
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): And then you're…
430
00:53:17.325 --> 00:53:26.004
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): staff report will be really quick. Yeah.
We don't have a commissioner report, so I would say, 7.15 to take a
moment and text for rides.
431
00:53:26.995 --> 00:53:28.815
Quinlan Conf Room: We'll just give you a second there.
432
00:54:30.460 --> 00:54:33.930
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): These are all really long textures.
433
00:54:33.935 --> 00:54:37.494
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): So I think we're… should be mostly done.
Once they immediately swipe their.
434
00:54:37.495 --> 00:54:43.495
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): TikTok and forgot they were… Alright,
let's, alright, let's move on to the next item, the subject.
435
00:54:43.495 --> 00:54:48.694
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): is Splash Bash and Summer Kickoff. The
recommended action is to solicit feedback on Splash Bash.
436
00:54:49.015 --> 00:54:51.125
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Summer kickoff for 2026.
437
00:54:52.545 --> 00:54:54.705
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Right.
438
00:54:55.580 --> 00:55:13.229
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you, Team Commission. My name's
Robert Coughton, appreciate you having me here. I'm going to briefly talk
about Splash Flash Bash Slash Summer Kickoff, kind of an end of the year…
end of the school year event that Yab and I have ran a couple times for
the past few years, and we're looking to bring back again this year.
439
00:55:13.450 --> 00:55:15.240
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, let's just get right into it.
440
00:55:18.620 --> 00:55:32.309
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): big surprise, I'm gonna give you an
overview, and then we're gonna have a discussion about it. Does that
sound good? Okay, cool. So, Slash Bash, we launched this event in Summer
2023, initially as Summer Kickoff.
441
00:55:34.030 --> 00:55:51.779
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And we designed it to celebrate the end
of the school year and start of the summer season. And I'll say also,
because we're gearing up for summer camps around that time, we also have
a lot of our, like, summer… summer, like, mobile rec stuff on hand. It's
kind of a great handshake between, like.
442
00:55:51.910 --> 00:56:02.089
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): prepping for summer, and then running
this event, because we're just pulling out a lot of our games and rec
stuff that we would normally use during the summer season anyways.
443
00:56:02.540 --> 00:56:16.760
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We feature a lot of long games, like
Giant Connect 4, Playable Archery, and volleyball. We also include other
activities, like a Super Smash Bros. TV cart, and,
444
00:56:17.120 --> 00:56:23.859
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We also have brought Kona Ice out, they
love coming out for summer events as well.
445
00:56:24.470 --> 00:56:27.789
Quinlan Conf Room: And we run it around the picnic area on the other side
of Memorial.
446
00:56:27.790 --> 00:56:29.940
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Field, just out back here.
447
00:56:30.660 --> 00:56:31.350
Quinlan Conf Room: Can you?
448
00:56:34.750 --> 00:56:47.229
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): In 2024, we rebranded it to highlight our
added water balloon fight, potentially also doing more water events,
depending on whether we get the
449
00:56:47.600 --> 00:56:51.839
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): approval or not. I think you can see…
450
00:56:52.990 --> 00:57:06.019
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh yeah, there's my advocates, spraying
people with a water gun in that photo. There was another photo of me
getting absolutely drenched that I decided not to, inflict upon you
tonight.
451
00:57:06.280 --> 00:57:07.740
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah.
452
00:57:10.000 --> 00:57:18.599
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh, I mistyped that, but we added
inflatable, axe throwing and an inflatable obstacle course, too.
453
00:57:18.960 --> 00:57:31.540
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We added a lot more activities in 2024.
Water fights, inflatable obstacle forces, just bigger things to kind of
make it more of an event worth, like, coming to.
454
00:57:32.250 --> 00:57:35.019
Quinlan Conf Room: And made it more interactive, made it higher energy.
455
00:57:35.020 --> 00:57:46.500
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): we definitely saw a little bump in
numbers at the time, but, this event, as much fun as it is to throw, and
I think it's, like, a worthwhile event to have.
456
00:57:47.480 --> 00:58:02.559
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): like I alluded to, it's not, like, the
biggest event in participation, and we're kind of wondering, you know,
what do you guys think we could do to improve it, or maybe it's just kind
of an outreach thing. You know, is it the activities that we have at the
event that's not that exciting, or is it, like.
457
00:58:02.870 --> 00:58:12.009
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We also hold this event, the week before
summer, so… had it, like, this year looking to have it on June 7th?
458
00:58:12.280 --> 00:58:18.209
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Something like that? The Saturday right
before summer. Oh, it's on this page right here.
459
00:58:18.610 --> 00:58:22.429
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And that's kind of like the weekend we
ran it before.
460
00:58:22.660 --> 00:58:41.769
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): maybe it's the date, right? Maybe because
it's right before summer, maybe some of y'all… plenty of y'all are, like,
on vacation already, right? Like, flying to a different country, or on
the road. Yeah. Let me know. The main question for this event is really
how can we get more teams to shop for this event?
461
00:58:41.980 --> 00:58:44.459
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Maybe Kona Ice is not the move.
462
00:58:46.080 --> 00:58:52.729
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Maybe it's Chipotle. Don't say Chipotle.
Maybe, I don't know. But yeah, let me know what you guys think. Alright.
463
00:58:53.300 --> 00:59:02.259
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, thank you for the presentation.
It's always good to have spaces presenting. I will now open it up to
commissioners for any clarifying questions on the presentation.
464
00:59:02.900 --> 00:59:07.129
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): What time is it normally? We do it in,
like, the early afternoon.
465
00:59:07.240 --> 00:59:20.570
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Especially with Splash Bash, because we
kind of have, like, some water games out, like, we had, like, water
balloons and water guns, and hoping to do more, like, sprinklers and
stuff like that. Because the advocates really wanted a water slide,
466
00:59:20.930 --> 00:59:36.580
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Wasn't able to do a water slide, so what
are you doing before. But, because of that, it's like, oh, and coat of
ice, it'd be a great time to do it, like, the hottest part of the day, we
were thinking, just because then it's the most refreshing, because then
it starts getting cold afterward. But yeah, that's about the time.
467
00:59:37.180 --> 00:59:40.900
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): Are there RSVPs, or do you just want to
show up?
468
00:59:41.330 --> 00:59:47.049
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): You just show up, I mean, but, like, most
of our events, we try to, like, we get everybody to check in, which kind
of helps us, like.
469
00:59:47.230 --> 00:59:51.940
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Gauge how much we have to buy in terms of
supplies beforehand, and…
470
00:59:52.060 --> 00:59:56.019
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): How much resources can we kind of attach
to an event, you know?
471
00:59:59.640 --> 01:00:00.440
Quinlan Conf Room: Alright.
472
01:00:00.440 --> 01:00:03.759
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): But it's a free event. It's a free event.
473
01:00:04.640 --> 01:00:13.119
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh, if there are no more questions, I will
now open public comment on this item. Lindsay, do we have any speaker
cards or hands raised on Zoom for this item? We have no speakers, that's
true.
474
01:00:13.125 --> 01:00:13.715
Speaker 9 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, thank you.
475
01:00:13.720 --> 01:00:19.620
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you. Seeing no speakers, I will now
close public comment and open this item up to discussion and comments.
476
01:00:23.740 --> 01:00:24.960
Quinlan Conf Room: the.
477
01:00:24.960 --> 01:00:30.660
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): a water balloon flight, how big of a scale
is that right now? Or is that just, like, a… It was pretty small.
478
01:00:30.665 --> 01:00:41.274
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): It was, like, me and three app members
getting dunked on by a bunch of others. It was, like, a small… small
scrimmage. We… in our…
479
01:00:42.035 --> 01:00:47.415
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): The vision was, like, a big one. But, you
know, you have to have the numbers for that.
480
01:00:47.705 --> 01:00:48.285
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Go hotels.
481
01:00:48.290 --> 01:00:53.669
Speaker 11 (Quinlan Conf Room): earlier, but is this for, like, only
teens, or is it, like, any grade in each?
482
01:00:53.955 --> 01:01:02.075
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): So, it's supposed to be a teen event.
We've, in the last… the two times we ran this event,
483
01:01:02.735 --> 01:01:04.525
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We were turning away…
484
01:01:04.715 --> 01:01:17.764
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): there was, like, a lot of little siblings
around, and so we'd end up letting in the youth as well. Thank you,
you're all the youth, but, you know, your little siblings as well, and
it's been kind of one of those push-and-pull things where we feel like
485
01:01:17.935 --> 01:01:23.704
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): you know, we want it to be a teen event,
but then there's not a lot of teens around, so then we're like, okay,
we'll also let
486
01:01:24.075 --> 01:01:27.885
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): your little siblings in, too, because
then at least the Kona ice can be…
487
01:01:28.325 --> 01:01:32.354
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Distributed, and some of the games can be
more used.
488
01:01:33.115 --> 01:01:35.175
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, so we aim for it to be a 2.
489
01:01:38.250 --> 01:01:41.939
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh, I was thinking… adding a dunk tank.
490
01:01:42.150 --> 01:01:55.880
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): Kind of fun. Like, you have, like, a
volunteer form or whatever for that, so, like, anyone who wants to be,
like, in the tough tank, like, just, like, trash talk whatever's starting
to evolve. And also, I don't know if it's possible, but, like.
491
01:01:56.220 --> 01:02:02.869
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): maybe inviting teachers to be in the dunk
tank? Like, the students want to dunk their teachers?
492
01:02:02.875 --> 01:02:03.635
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): I was about to suggestions.
493
01:02:03.635 --> 01:02:05.135
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): But, yeah. I can adjust that.
494
01:02:05.135 --> 01:02:05.975
Speaker 5 (Quinlan Conf Room): teacher.
495
01:02:05.975 --> 01:02:07.325
Speaker 8 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, brilliant.
496
01:02:07.325 --> 01:02:08.745
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Perfect, perfect.
497
01:02:09.015 --> 01:02:11.855
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Don't take, thank Commissioner Wang.
498
01:02:13.075 --> 01:02:14.774
Quinlan Conf Room: Wow, that's future.
499
01:02:14.895 --> 01:02:15.615
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Beautiful.
500
01:02:16.980 --> 01:02:19.860
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): I think Konas is good, so just to say if
I…
501
01:02:20.380 --> 01:02:29.679
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): even though, like, I don't think it's cold
highs, and, like, that's really a turnout, and I think it's a really good
decision, especially since it's summer, so… Right. Cool.
502
01:02:30.390 --> 01:02:32.560
Quinlan Conf Room: I don't know how much, like, boys like these.
503
01:02:32.560 --> 01:02:48.380
Speaker 3 (Quinlan Conf Room): kinds of activities, but I know, like,
whenever I go to, like, my friends' birthday parties and stuff, they have
a lot of, like, arts and crafts stuff. Like, for example, like, you
could, like, paint your own, like, bags or something. Those are, like,
really cheap to do, or, like, any sort of, like, arts and crafts stuff
would be really fun. For, like, teens, I guess.
504
01:02:49.050 --> 01:02:52.169
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, we had… we did henna, I think, in
2020.
505
01:02:52.440 --> 01:02:55.129
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): full water. That was really fun.
506
01:02:55.570 --> 01:03:07.370
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Bead-making bracelets, stuff like that.
And maybe, maybe part of it is also just communicating some of these
activities more, because maybe it's just too broad on the page, on the
flyer.
507
01:03:07.610 --> 01:03:10.459
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And so, maybe it's like, oh…
508
01:03:11.460 --> 01:03:20.480
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): It just looks like they have some water
balloons or something, you know? Like, maybe it's just communicating some
of that stuff more, highlighting it more. But, painting bags on top.
509
01:03:22.630 --> 01:03:32.590
Speaker 11 (Quinlan Conf Room): This is probably not the reason why,
like, there isn't a lot of attendance, but I know my school does
something very similar to this at the end of the year, which could also,
like, kind of conflict. Kind of overlap a little bit?
510
01:03:35.380 --> 01:03:38.369
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Oh, Fremar, okay.
511
01:03:39.510 --> 01:03:43.399
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): The… is Kona, like, the only food truck
there, or…
512
01:03:44.220 --> 01:03:44.850
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah.
513
01:03:46.370 --> 01:03:51.190
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Maybe, like, invite more food trucks and,
like, also frame it as, like, a food… food event, too. Okay.
514
01:03:52.040 --> 01:03:53.120
Quinlan Conf Room: More food.
515
01:03:56.520 --> 01:03:59.510
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): I can always ask. You know, yeah, like,
honestly…
516
01:04:00.140 --> 01:04:02.890
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): It's probably… it's probably right,
Charlie.
517
01:04:05.330 --> 01:04:11.789
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): Maybe not just, like, ice-related food,
because, like, it's gonna be in the afternoon, some people might get
hungry, so, like…
518
01:04:12.370 --> 01:04:13.860
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): I could get lunch, or whatever.
519
01:04:14.220 --> 01:04:15.389
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): Like, the habits?
520
01:04:16.440 --> 01:04:17.450
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): Like, the habit?
521
01:04:17.640 --> 01:04:21.970
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, like, I don't know, just like, I
don't know, like a hot dog food truck or something.
522
01:04:27.350 --> 01:04:27.950
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay.
523
01:04:33.700 --> 01:04:34.380
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): Boop.
524
01:04:35.380 --> 01:04:36.720
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): What if we did hot dogs?
525
01:04:38.680 --> 01:04:40.520
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): You and I. What if we'd adopted?
526
01:04:41.700 --> 01:04:43.869
Quinlan Conf Room: Well, we just started making hot dogs.
527
01:04:44.540 --> 01:04:51.699
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I don't have a recipe. Well, yeah, I'll
bring the recipe, and the tea commissioner to come out, we'll cook the…
okay. Alright.
528
01:04:52.370 --> 01:04:53.410
Quinlan Conf Room: Anything else?
529
01:04:56.390 --> 01:04:56.970
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright.
530
01:04:58.970 --> 01:04:59.830
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): Is that it?
531
01:05:00.480 --> 01:05:02.589
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): Yeah, of course, this is just…
532
01:05:02.595 --> 01:05:08.495
Speaker 6 (Quinlan Conf Room): weird, just random idea. Is it possible to
turn on the water sprinklers for the fields?
533
01:05:14.680 --> 01:05:18.449
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Like, the city sprinklers? Yes. Probably
not.
534
01:05:18.880 --> 01:05:25.269
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I mean, that's, like, that's regulated,
obviously, by Public Works remotely, and…
535
01:05:25.430 --> 01:05:33.400
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): probably not a good use of, like, city…
like, a city infrastructure-based thing, right? Like, if we were to do
something, it would be like…
536
01:05:33.530 --> 01:05:37.349
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We pull out a hose and, like, attach a
sprinkler to it.
537
01:05:40.360 --> 01:05:41.760
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I think you're thinking, though.
538
01:05:41.760 --> 01:05:43.629
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): But that's out of this…
539
01:05:43.630 --> 01:05:45.650
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Fox thing, and I was asking for it.
540
01:05:46.130 --> 01:05:48.590
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, are there any other final
comments?
541
01:05:50.780 --> 01:05:58.429
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, thank you. I think we will move
on now to the next item of business on the agenda. Thank you for the
presentation. Alright.
542
01:05:59.100 --> 01:06:01.610
Quinlan Conf Room: Alright, now it's on to staff and commission reports.
543
01:06:03.740 --> 01:06:08.639
Speaker 1 (Quinlan Conf Room): Who's doing that? Okay. Wonderful.
544
01:06:09.980 --> 01:06:11.069
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Thank you.
545
01:06:11.220 --> 01:06:19.260
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Vice Chair a lot to do for teeing me up
like that. We'll be real quick, because we've just said we're going to
get out of here in a couple minutes.
546
01:06:19.390 --> 01:06:26.379
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): One event for my event wrap-up, we did
Big Bunny last weekend on Saturday the 7th.
547
01:06:26.620 --> 01:06:33.160
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): It's actually kind of a two-part event,
because Friday the 6th, we do bid pickup,
548
01:06:33.470 --> 01:06:42.860
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And we have a lot of… we have a lot of
the entrants, kind of coming and getting their shirts, getting their bibs
ahead of time. That… that…
549
01:06:43.750 --> 01:06:55.980
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Each gets supported by… our staff gets
supported by rev volunteering. We had around 12 volunteers show up just
to help with handing all that out and staging equipment.
550
01:06:56.210 --> 01:06:57.840
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): I should also stress that
551
01:06:58.150 --> 01:07:03.170
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): not stress, emphasize that Big Bunny is a
big event for a department, it's like a department-wide
552
01:07:03.380 --> 01:07:10.620
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): In terms of staffing as well, so even
though we have most of our department there working it, we also have
553
01:07:10.910 --> 01:07:20.320
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): a need for a ton of volunteers for this
event, too. So, we're grateful to have our volunteers, not just for
Friday, but on the day of, on Saturday the 7th.
554
01:07:20.500 --> 01:07:33.789
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Because, like I said, it's a big event.
We had over 720 participants at this event running either in the main
race, or little ones running in the kids' fun run on the library field.
555
01:07:35.310 --> 01:07:44.000
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): we, we had over 30 volunteers, Rev, and
some one-day volunteers from Homestead NHS,
556
01:07:44.690 --> 01:08:04.689
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): join us for that day, which, like I said,
was a big event. Your very own, chair, Anushri Misra, and then, team…
fellow team commissioner Sanvi Halamby. I know your name, I don't know
why I had to look at it, but anyways, your fellow commissioner,
Commissioner Hawambi, they co-emce'd this event.
557
01:08:04.690 --> 01:08:12.229
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Sorry, I don't have a picture for you
today to kind of embarrass them, but, they did a fantastic job, so round
of applause.
558
01:08:16.640 --> 01:08:19.520
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Anusha… Anushi, you'll be,
559
01:08:19.609 --> 01:08:38.580
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): terming out this year, but, she did it
last year, so we kind of paired her with, Samvi over here to kind of help
guide her in that, and then next year, we're hoping that you'll return as
a co-MC for this event and do the same thing for, one of our newer
commissioners.
560
01:08:40.510 --> 01:08:54.950
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Coming up next Saturday is Teen Resource
Fair. I'm gonna send out calendar invites after this, but I thought I
would just kind of, like, tell you the shifts, I selected for everybody.
So, 1145 to 115.
561
01:08:55.210 --> 01:08:59.770
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Commissioner Hsu? Commissioner Sue? Yana?
562
01:09:00.210 --> 01:09:03.370
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And Vice Chair Carly Liu.
563
01:09:03.930 --> 01:09:16.840
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): 11.45 to 1.15. 1 to 2.15 PM, and they're
all overlapped by 15 minutes, just to kind of give, like, a handshake to
each other in terms of information… passing information over, passing,
like.
564
01:09:16.920 --> 01:09:25.889
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And kind of give each other talking
points, okay? 1 to 2.15, the chair, Anushri Misra, Sumeda Kumar, and
then.
565
01:09:25.890 --> 01:09:28.079
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): And, Rashil Dishmuth?
566
01:09:28.220 --> 01:09:36.760
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay, so that's 1 to 2.15. And then the
last shift is 2 to 3.15, that's going to be Sanvi, Hamby, Vinay, Prakash.
567
01:09:36.765 --> 01:09:38.215
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): and Chelsea Lau.
568
01:09:39.670 --> 01:09:40.970
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): Does that sound good to everybody?
569
01:09:41.529 --> 01:09:44.409
Quinlan Conf Room: Okay, cool. I'm gonna send out calendar invites in the
morning.
570
01:09:44.410 --> 01:09:45.100
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): Okay.
571
01:09:45.270 --> 01:09:52.950
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): And then, lastly, we have Hack Cupertino
coming up in a month. That is on April 11th to 12th.
572
01:09:53.435 --> 01:09:56.224
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): wanted to mention that that is kind of,
like.
573
01:09:56.980 --> 01:10:01.659
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): our last big team event of the year.
Please attend. Also, if…
574
01:10:02.790 --> 01:10:04.670
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Like, to help with the event.
575
01:10:04.670 --> 01:10:08.799
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): like, in place of attending, I think…
576
01:10:08.800 --> 01:10:16.470
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Youth Activity Board is gonna need some
help. There's a good amount of them that are FBLA members, and so they're
gonna be in SoCal.
577
01:10:16.835 --> 01:10:19.614
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): So, if you want to be a mentor.
578
01:10:19.615 --> 01:10:24.614
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): If you're an experienced builder, please
come be a mentor. If you have, like, a workshop idea.
579
01:10:24.715 --> 01:10:26.125
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Or if you just want to volunteer.
580
01:10:26.125 --> 01:10:30.365
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): You're at the vet, too, just to… Time to
hang out.
581
01:10:30.370 --> 01:10:41.570
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): We'll definitely take you. I'm pretty
sure your chair is gonna join us as a mentor this year. We've had past
team commissioners be good mentors.
582
01:10:42.390 --> 01:10:43.879
Quinlan Conf Room: Lend some help, and…

589
01:11:02.805 --> 01:11:05.715
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): annoying over the next couple weeks about
all this.
590
01:11:05.715 --> 01:11:07.074
Speaker 13 (Quinlan Conf Room): Stop the joke.
591
01:11:07.355 --> 01:11:09.974
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): Just wanted to let you know before I just
start firing off.
592
01:11:10.115 --> 01:11:13.085
Speaker 10 (Quinlan Conf Room): And, and, calendar invites.

any future agenda items?
596
01:11:24.460 --> 01:11:25.430
Speaker 12 (Quinlan Conf Room): Alright, if not…
597
01:11:28.120 --> 01:11:34.150
Speaker 4 (Quinlan Conf Room): Are you still talking about, like, the

01:11:46.600 --> 01:11:57.550
Speaker 2 (Quinlan Conf Room): a lot of those changes that, were
recommended that I'm working on will be implemented not until the new

601
01:11:57.980 --> 01:11:59.040
