CC Resolution No. 10-044 Supporting Adequate State Funding for California Community Colleges RESOLUTION NO. 10 -044
A RESOLUTION OF THE CUPERTINO CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING
ADEQUATE STATE FUNDING FOR CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES
WHEREAS, over the past 18 months the California Community College system
has sustained a series of funding cuts totaling more than $840 million; and
WHEREAS, these funding cuts have had the result of causing many California
community colleges to dramatically cut their class offerings, often by eliminating entire
areas of study; and
WHEREAS, recent funding cuts to the University of California and California
State University systems has resulted in approximately 135,000 additional students being
redirected to the California Community College system this academic year; and
WHEREAS, this increase in the number of students seeking education through the
California Community College system coupled with the simultaneous reduction of
community college class offerings has had the effect depriving an estimated 250,000
people statewide of their abilities to pursue a higher education over the past 12 months.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Cupertino supports the
advocacy efforts of California community college student, faculty, staff, and
administration groups to seek adequate funding for California community colleges in
particular and public education in general.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Cupertino authorizes the use of its
name by California community college student, faculty, staff, and administration groups
for the purpose of seeking adequate funding for the California Community College
system in particular and public education in general.
