ROLL CALL Present: Chair Anushree Misra and Commissioners Rusheel Deshmukh, Jonathan Gao, Saanvi Halambi, Chelsea Lau, and Vinay Prakash. Absent: Vice Chair Harly Liu and Commissioners Brianna Su and Sumedha Kumar. CEREMONIAL MATTERS AND PRESENTATIONS 1. Subject: Summer Events Presentation Recommended Action: Receive a presentation on summer events from Recreation Coordinator, Christina Lopez. Written Communications for this item included a staff presentation. Recreation Coordinator Christina Lopez gave a presentation. Chair Misra opened the public comment period and, seeing no one, closed the public comment period. Commissioners asked questions which staff responded to. The Commission received the presentation on summer events. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 2. Subject: Approval of Minutes - April 8, 2026 Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes from the Teen Commission meeting on April 8, 2026. Commissioners asked questions, which Chair Misra responded to. Chair Misra opened the public comment period and, seeing no one, closed the public 10 TC 08-12-2026 10 of 19 comment period. MOTION: Halambi moved and Gao seconded to approve the April 8, 2026, minutes. The motion carried with the following vote: Ayes: Misra, Deshmukh, Gao, Halambi, Lau, Prakash. Noes: None. Abstain: None. Subject: Teen Resource Fair Recommended Action: Receive a presentation and provide feedback on the 2027 Teen Resource Fair from Recreation Coordinator, Robert Kaufman. Commissioners made the following recommendations: • Separate Teen Commission and Youth Activity Board tables to avoid confusion and encourage attendees to visit both. • Organize booths by category (City programs, volunteer opportunities, health and wellness, student organizations, and employment resources) to improve navigation. • Add larger, clearer signage to distinguish booths and identify different programs. • Place related booths adjacent to one another to make it easier for attendees to find similar opportunities. • Expand participation by inviting additional nonprofit organizations and youth-led organizations, particularly those serving Cupertino teens. • Consider expanding the event footprint to accommodate more booths and organize exhibitors into themed areas. • Increase marketing efforts to attract more high school-aged attendees. • Coordinate more closely with the Inter-District Council (IDC) to promote the event through school announcements and campus communication channels. 11 TC 08-12-2026 11 of 19 • Promote the event through school ASB organizations, school media, and social media platforms, particularly Instagram. • Encourage commissioners and partner organizations to repost and share City social media content to increase the event's visibility. 4. Subject: Recreation Event Volunteers Recommended Action: Receive a presentation and provide feedback on 2026 Recreation Event Volunteers from Recreation Coordinator, Robert Kaufman. Commissioners made the following recommendations: • Explore promoting REV volunteer opportunities by highlighting nationally recognized service awards, such as the Congressional Award, that participants may be eligible to earn through volunteer hours. • Continue identifying and referencing comparable volunteer recognition programs to strengthen outreach and recruitment. • Consider implementing a more streamlined communication system for REV members, as email communications can be difficult for participants to keep track of. 5. Subject: Teen School Year Programs Recommended Action: Receive a presentation and provide feedback on the school year teen programs from Recreation Coordinator, Robert Kaufman. Chair Misra opened the public comment period and, seeing no one, closed the public comment period. 12 TC 08-12-2026 12 of 19 Commissioners made the following recommendations: • Consider reducing the number of movie nights and focusing resources on programs with higher attendance and engagement. • Schedule movie nights on long weekends or avoid periods with finals and Advanced Placement (AP) exams to improve attendance. • Explore partnering with schools or the Inter-District Council (IDC) to host joint movie nights and expand outreach. • Coordinate movie night scheduling with schools to avoid conflicts with campus events. • Consider reinstating the May Study Café as a low-commitment opportunity for students to study, socialize, and prepare for finals. 6. Subject: Speaking Opportunities for Teen Commissioners Recommended Action: Review and provide feedback on speaking opportunities for Teen Commissioners in the 2025-2026 term with Recreation Coordinator, Robert Kaufman. Commissioners made the following recommendations: • Select enthusiastic MCs for the Big Bunny 5K who are comfortable engaging participants and improvising throughout the event. • Consider reducing the number of MCs for Earth and Arbor Day from three to two to improve coordination and reduce stage congestion. • Continue offering Teen Commission volunteer opportunities at community events, including the Spelling Bee and Earth and Arbor Day. • Continue providing opportunities for collaboration between the Teen Commission and Youth Activity Board at volunteer events. 7. Subject: Teen Commission Summer Meeting Schedule Recommended Action: Discuss summer meeting schedule and availability of Commissioners to attend.
