Cupertino Library · 2026 Community Survey 05 W H Y I T M A T TERS What this means for Cupertino 1 A more comfortable space The single biggest request is more comfortable, casual seating (55%) –patrons want to linger, study and gather. 2 Strong demand for enrichment programs Art & Craft (60%) and STEM (51%) lead –the library is a hub for hands-on learning. 3 A support system for school-age families The most-valued services are teen spaces (46%), homework help (42%), and early-literacy support (37%). Hope is not just a feeling, but a strategic imperative. We invite you to hear from Fisher on Monday, August 17 at 7 p.m. at Cupertino Library. Fisher will read selections from Hope Is the Strategy and open the floor for a conversation about what it looks like to build hope as a daily practice. We will be giving away free signed copies of the book to the first 50 people at the event. Wednesday, August 12, 2026 2:00PM – 3:00PM Santa Clara County Library District, in partnership with Santa Clara County Public Health, is proud to offer training for our community members about how to recognize an opioid overdose and how to safely administer the nasal spray Naloxone (commonly known as Narcan). How can we make this time more meaningful, positive, and, yes, productive for everyone? Workplace wellbeing expert Jen Fisher has some thoughts, which she will share in person at the Cupertino Library at 7 PM on Monday, August 17. In her first book, Work Better Together, Fisher focused on positive social interactions and relationships in the workplace. Her latest work is Hope Is the Strategy, she makes the case that hope is a practical, learnable skill, built on a sense of agency and the ability to see multiple paths forward. Optimism can shape how we lead teams, handle setbacks, and stay whole under pressure. The first 50 people who attend the event will receive a free signed copy of the book. Hope to see you! Giving Thanks for Summer Reading Another Summer Reading program is in the books. Thank you to everyone who took part in one of our many wonderful programs, and/or signed up and logged five books. Those who attend the sessions will receive free doses of Naloxone. Too many County residents continue to be hospitalized or die from drugs like hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine and fentanyl. Come be part of the solution. You might even save a life! Dates: Weds., Aug. 5 (Campbell), 12 (Cupertino) and 19 (Saratoga) at 2 PM. Weds., Sep. 2 (Los Altos) and 16 (Milpitas) at 3 PM. Two Weeks Left to Apply for Poet Laureate Local poets have until Fri., Aug. 14 to apply for the position of County Poet Laureate for 2027-28. SCCLD is teaming up with local partner arts agency SVCREATES, with support from Poetry Center San José, to identify candidates. Eligibility Criteria and Core Duties for the Santa Clara County Poet Laureate can be found on our news release, along with details about the application process. Those interested can apply at: SVCREATES.org/Poet-Laureate The Poet Laureate is an honorary post that acts as an advocate for poetry, literature, and the arts. Serving the unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County and the cities of Campbell | Cupertino | Gilroy | Los Altos | Los Altos Hills | Milpitas | Monte Sereno | Morgan Hill | Saratoga A New Aquatic Adventure to Explore The much-loved aquarium at the Cupertino Library has been under repair for the past few months to improve the quality of the natural habitat and also restock it with hundreds of new saltwater fish. The wait is almost over. The revamped aquarium will be unveiled on Sat., Aug. 8 at 10:15 AM. This is the first major rehab of the space, with the original sand replaced and artificial reefs cleaned. To celebrate, the library will be holding a full day’s worth of activities, including a storytime, a hands-on craft project, and a scavenger hunt. There will also be a photobooth. Come out and see how many fish species you can count! Special thanks to the Cupertino Library Foundation for funding this project. Woodland Library Terrace Project The Los Altos Library Endowment (LALE) is hosting a Ribbon Cutting Celebration for the Woodland Library Terrace and Native Habitat on Sat., Aug. 15 from 11 AM to 1 PM. This is a major reimagining of the space on the side of the library, which will now feature shared eating areas with tables and umbrellas, with surfaces for games and chalk activities. GreenTown Los Altos has designed beautiful landscaping filled with native plants that will serve as an educational environment. Mayor Sally Meadows will give comments and cut the ribbon.
