HomeMy WebLinkAboutBPC 05-20-2026 MinutesAPPROVED MINUTES CUPERTINO BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION Wednesday, May 20, 2026 At 7:00 p.m. Chair Gerhard Eschelbeck called the Regular Bicycle Pedestrian Commission meeting to order at the Quinlan Conference Room, 10185 North Stelling Road and via teleconference. ROLL CALL Present: Chair Gerhard Eschelbeck, Vice Chair Munisekaran Madhdhipatla and Commissioners Ilango Ganga (arrived at 7:04 p.m.), Hervé Marcy, and Joel Wolf. Absent: None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1.Subject: April 15, 2026 Bicycle Pedestrian Commission minutes Recommended Action: Approve the April 15, 2026 Bicycle Pedestrian Commission Minutes MOTION: Wolf moved and Madhdhipatla seconded to approve the April 15, 2026, Bicycle Pedestrian Commission minutes. The motion carried with the following vote: Ayes: Eschelbeck, Marcy and Wolf. Noes: None. Abstain: Madhdhipatla. Absent: Ganga. POSTPONEMENTS – None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Vivek Dutta discussed vehicle speeds on Prospect Road and cyclist safety. Changming Liu discussed vehicle speeds on Prospect Road. Guiqiang Dong discussed vehicle speeds on Prospect Road. OLD BUSINESS – 2.Subject: Bicycle Facilities Improvements (Dullu) Recommended Action: Receive Update and Provide Direction for Bicycle Facilities Improvements Work Plan Item Bicycle Pedestrian Commission Minutes May 20, 2026 Written communications included a staff presentation. Assistant Engineer Prashanth Dullu gave a presentation. Commissioners asked questions which staff responded to. Chair Eschelbeck opened the public comment period and, seeing no one, closed the public comment period. Commission unanimously consented recommending that the proposed bike locations be split up between them, and they would return to the next Bicycle Pedestrian Commission Meeting with recommendations. NEW BUSINESS 3. Subject: Appointment of Cupertino Representative to VTA Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (Staff) Recommended Action: Appoint a Commissioner to represent Cupertino on the VTA Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee Transportation Manager David Stillman gave a verbal report. Commissioners asked questions which staff responded to. Chair Eschelbeck opened the public comment period and, seeing no one, closed the public comment period. MOTION: Ganga moved and Madhdhipatla seconded to recommend to the City Council to appoint Commissioner Marcy to the Valley Transportation Authority Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee beginning July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028. The motion carried with the following vote: Ayes: Eschelbeck, Madhdhipatla, Ganga, Marcy, and Wolf. Noes: None. Abstain: None. Absent: None. STAFF AND COMMISSION REPORTS 4. Subject: Staff Update and Commissioner Activity Report (All) Recommended Action: Receive Updates from Staff and Commissioners Regarding Recent Activities Transportation Manager David Stillman reported that the Stevens Creek Boulevard cycling Bicycle Pedestrian Commission Minutes May 20, 2026 project is progressing, with major improvements anticipated by mid-July. However, the Tantau/Wolfe Interchange Project has been delayed to comply with environmental protections for nesting birds and wood rats. Additionally, Mr. Stillman announced a two- year extension of the crossing guard contract and noted that citywide speed surveys will be conducted in the near future. Commissioner Wolf reported on the Bike to Work Day. Commissioner Madhdhipatla reported on residents’ comments about construction on Stelling Road and Bubb Road. Commissioner Marcy reported on the Mayor’s Meeting.
