Subject: Director's Minor Modification (DIR-2009-35) of a previously approved
Architectural and Site Approval (file no. ASA-2008-05) for a facade remodel of Building
#5 at an existing office park located at 6 Results Way.
Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative
approval of minor changes in a project. The Director reports his decision
to the City Council and Planning Commission in time to allow any
Council member or Planning Commissioner to appeal the decision within
fourteen calendar days.
BACKGROUND:
The applicant, Blake Reinhardt of ECI Two Results, LLC, proposes to construct interim
facade improvements of an existing office building (Building #5) at the Results Way
Office Park. The exterior building improvements along with some interior
improvements are needed to accommodate the short-term expansion needs of one the
business park tenants, ArcSight, which intends to occupy about 36,000 square feet of t11e
73,000 square foot Building #5.
In September 2008, the City Council approved a partial redevelopment of this office
park that would demolish five buildings and construct three new ones and a parking
structure. In November 2008, a facade remodel of Building #5 was approved by the
Director of Community Development to allow that remodel to proceed in advance of
the redevelopment of the business park.
DISCUSSION:
The short-term facade improvements proposed in this application are intended to
accommodate an immediate tenant space need and do not affect the longer term
improvements planned by the property owners and approved by the City in 2008.
The facade changes involve:
1) Removing an existing plywood parapet;
2) Repainting the building;
3) Demolishing the existing building entry and constructing a new entry;
4) Demolishing the existing handicapped access ramp and constructing a new one
for the new front entry;
5) Restoring window systems that were previously filled in with concrete panels;
and
6) Installing windows into the bridge structure which spans Buildings #4 and #5.

The project includes the removal of ten trees near the building front: American Sweet
Gum, Flowering Plums and European White Birches. These trees were previously
authorized for removal by the City Council under TR-2008-06.

The Director of Community Development deems the facade remodel minor and
approves the change as described in the plan set exhibit entitled:
"Results Way Campus/Results Way/Cupertino, CA," consisting of 11 sheets labeled:
A0.00, L.01, L.02, L1.01, L3.01, A1.00, A2.00, A2.01 through A2.04.
This approval of the modification is effective November 18, 2009. The fourteen calendar
day appeal period will expire on December 2, 2009.
