Report Date: March 13, 2026 1. Assignment This report has been prepared at the request of Apple Inc. for the purpose of supporting a tree removal permit application with the City of Cupertino. The subject tree is located at 10600 N Tantau Ave, Cupertino, California. The objective of this report is to document the condition of the tree, determine whether it is viable for retention, and provide a professional arboricultural recommendation regarding its removal and mitigation. 2. Property and Client Informa8on Property Owner / Client: Apple Inc. Site Address: 10600 N Tantau Ave, Cupertino, CA 95014 Jurisdiction: City of Cupertino 3. Tree Iden8fica8on 4. Site Descrip8on The subject tree is located within a landscaped planting area adjacent to circulation infrastructure on the Apple Visitor Center campus property. The planting area is bordered by hardscape features associated with campus circulation. 5. Tree Condi8on Assessment A visual ground-based inspection was conducted to evaluate the health and structural condition of the subject tree. The Atlas Cedar has been conUirmed dead. Observations supporting this determination include the absence of live foliage, extensive twig and branch dieback throughout the canopy, and lack of any visible bud development or new growth. The canopy structure consists entirely of desiccated branches, indicating complete canopy mortality. The precise cause of the tree’s decline could not be deUinitively determined at the time of inspection. However, several trees within the same planting cohort appear to be declining. There is a second tree currently in the later stages of decline but not yet dead. Attribute Description Species Cedrus atlantica (Atlas Cedar) Diameter at Breast Height (DBH)4.48 inches Condition Dead Location Landscape area adjacent to internal circulation infrastructure 6. Structural Integrity and Risk Considera8ons Dead trees progressively lose structural integrity as wood Uibers degrade. The subject tree contains brittle, dead branches and will continue to deteriorate over time. Dead conifers such as Cedrus atlantica frequently shed branches as decomposition progresses. Because the tree is located near circulation areas on the property, retaining it poses an avoidable risk of structural failure. Removal of the tree will eliminate this risk. 7. Replacement Feasibility The planting location was evaluated to determine whether a replacement tree could reasonably be accommodated in the same area. Due to limited planting space and surrounding hardscape infrastructure, the site does not provide adequate area to support a replacement tree that could mature without conUlict. As a result, replanting within the immediate area is not considered feasible. 8. Mi8ga8on Recommenda8on Because replacement planting at the site is not viable, the property owner, Apple Inc., requests mitigation through payment of in-lieu replacement fees in accordance with the City of Cupertino’s tree protection and replacement requirements. 9. Arborist Recommenda8on Based on the observations documented in this report, removal of the dead Cedrus atlantica is recommended. The tree has experienced complete mortality and cannot recover. Retention would provide no ecological or aesthetic value and would eventually present a safety concern as structural deterioration progresses. 10. Limi8ng Condi8ons This assessment was conducted as a visual ground-based inspection of the tree and surrounding site conditions. No laboratory analysis, soil testing, or invasive diagnostic procedures were performed. Findings represent conditions observed at the time of inspection. Photo Documenta8on Figure 1.
