HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 05-21-2026 (Teen & Public Safety Commission Interviews) APPROVED MINUTES CUPERTINO CITY COUNCIL Thursday, May 21, 2026 SPECIAL MEETING At 6:00 p.m., Mayor Kitty Moore called the Special City Council Meeting to order in the Cupertino Community Hall Council Chamber, 10350 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, CA 95014. ROLL CALL Present: Mayor Kitty Moore, Vice Mayor Liang Chao, and Councilmembers J.R. Fruen and Sheila Mohan. Absent: Councilmember R β€œRay” Wang. COMMISSION INTERVIEWS 1. Subject: Interview and appoint to fill vacancies on the Teen Commission (Day 2) Recommended Action: Conduct interviews and make appointments to fill four vacancies and one alternate commission member on the Teen Commission Written Communications for this item included an amended Attachment A – Interview Schedule. Mayor Moore opened the public comment period and, seeing no one, closed the public comment period. Councilmembers asked questions and made comments. Council conducted interviews for commission vacancies and terms expiring on Teen Commission. At 7:00 p.m., Mayor Moore recessed the meeting. The meeting reconvened at 7:14 p.m. with all Councilmembers present (Wang absent). The Council continued interviewing applicants. Councilmembers asked questions and made comments. Council voted to make appointments via an electronic voting system. Images of the voting results are included after the minutes as Exhibit A (attached). City Council Minutes May 21, 2026 Page 2 Council conducted voting rounds to fill the vacancies on the Teen Commission. MOTION: Moore moved and Mohan seconded to appoint Isabel Tian, Nikita Sharma, Anya Mulchandani, Pranshu Jha to the Teen Commission with terms ending August 31, 2029, and Stefan Johnson as alternate member. The motion passed with the following vote: Ayes: Moore, Chao, Fruen, and Mohan. Noes: None. Abstain: None. Absent: Wang. 2. Subject: Interview and appoint to fill vacancies on the Public Safety Commission Recommended Action: Conduct interviews and make appointments to fill two vacancies on the Public Safety Commission and one alternate commission member on the Public Safety Commission. MOTION: Fruen moved and Moore seconded to appoint Unmesh Agarwala to the Public Safety Commission with partial term ending January 30, 2027, Stephen Lau to the Public Safety Commission with a full term ending January 30, 2029, and Adwait Sathye as alternate member. The motion passed with the following vote: Ayes: Moore, Chao, Fruen and Mohan. Noes: None. Abstain: None. Absent: Wang.
