Dear City Council, Agenda Item #5 - Please Abolish Campaign Expenditure Limit This was a good idea back when. It was about disclosure. But I don’t think that start next to someone’s name is really understandable to most voters. The voters who care about campaign expenditures will see out campaign expenditures and disclosures. It costs staff time (= money) and the registrar time (= money) to handle these disclosures and one year they were messed up. It just doesn’t make sense to have it. Additionally, there are plenty of independent expenditure committees that can spend money too which effectively support individual campaigns. Let’s keep it simple and get rid of the campaign expenditure disclosure once and for all. Thanks, Rhoda Fry 40+ year resident PS – I was surprised to see this item on the consent calendar and I was also surprised by the extraordinary proposed increase.
