Hello,
I am writing to express my opposition to the new rules prohibiting regarding pickleball play at
Memorial Park.
The prohibition on play before 9 AM effectively bars many residents from using the courts
entirely on weekdays. For many of us with standard work schedules, the early morning is the
only viable time to play.
My wife and I bought our home in part for its proximity to Memorial Park so we could enjoy
its amenities. We believe all residents should have a voice in changes that impact park
accessibility. Unfortunately, this decision was made without providing the pickleball
community an opportunity for input or a seat at the table during the decision-making process.
The pickleball community has shown a willingness to be good neighbors. We have already
modified our behavior by using quiet paddles during early morning hours to mitigate noise.
Furthermore, the community previously offered suggestions regarding noise barriers. These
projects were reportedly already in the planning stages. We urge the city to move forward with
these structural solutions rather than implementing restrictive hours that exclude a significant
portion of the tax-paying public.
I ask that you reconsider the new rules and work with the community on a solution that
preserves access for working residents while addressing noise concerns through the planned
barriers.
Sincerely,
David Hou

Dear Cupertino City Council Members,
I am writing to question the objectives, and evaluation method of the proposed Memorial Park
Pickleball Trial Pilot Program.
Why is only pickleball being put on trial, and not tennis courts?
Can you share how many residents have raised concerns about the noise due to
pickleball players? Should'nt that be weighed against the number of residents who
benefit from free access to the pickleball courts which has helped create a thriving
active community ?
Why was it decided that there should be no play on Monday in addition to other
restrictions on play time ? Aren't time restrictions every day enough ?
Regarding noise, what is the status of the noise cancellation barriers that were
approved for use a while ago?
How will the final decision at the end of the pilot be made ?
I have been a resident for nearly twenty years, and haven't seen any activity during that time
involving residents that has generated this kind of enthusiasm, and sense of community.
