Environmental Education Center and Blacksmith Shop Grand Opening
CUPERTINO, CA – On Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 4pm, the Cupertino City Council
officially opened the new Environmental Education Center and renovated Blacksmith Shop at the
McClellan Ranch Preserve in Cupertino.
“Cupertino is famous for its continued dedication to education and environmental sustainability.
This new Environmental Education Center is another example of our commitment to education
and an investment in a sustainable future for our city and its residents.” said Cupertino Mayor
Rod Sinks.
“This is a beautiful place where our community can connect with nature and also with one
another,” said Cupertino City Naturalist Barbara Banfield.
The groundbreaking for the Environmental Education Center was on May 21, 2014.
The Baer Blacksmith Shop was originally at the intersection of De Anza and Stevens Creek
Boulevard, an area then known as the West Side Crossroads. It was established by William Baer in
1888. The new replica is a blacksmith forge for demonstrations and other educational
