Date: July 14, 2009
Subject: Director's Minor Modification (DIR-2009-13), to Sign Exception Approval
(EXC-2008-01), for three new wall signs at Marketplace Shopping Center (Building C).
Chapter 19.132 of the Cupertino Municipal Code allows for administrative
approval of minor changes in a project. The Director reports her decision
to the City Council and Planning Commission in time to allow any
Council member or Planning Commissioner to appeal the decision within
fourteen calendar days.
BACKGROUND:
The applicant is requesting a Director's Minor Modification to the existing sign
program to install three new first floor wall signs for Charles Schwab at the
Marketplace Shopping Center (Building C), located at 19620 Stevens Creek Boulevard,
Suite 100.
On March 6, 2008, The Design Review Committee approved a sign exception
application (EXC-2008-01) and revisions to the Market Place Shopping Center Sign
Program. According to the sign program, all new signs must obtain a Director's Minor
Modification approval from the Director of Community Development.
DISCUSSION:
The proposed request includes one wall sign along the north elevation of Building C,
one wall sign along the west elevation, and one wall sign along the south elevation. The
request also includes interior signage and one temporary banner along the north
elevation to be removed when the permanent wall signs are installed.
ACTION:
The proposed signs are consistent with the approved sign program and staff supports
this application.
This approval of the modification is effective July 14, 2009. The fourteen-calendar day
appeal period will expire on July 28, 2009.
