RESOLUTION NO. 784
OF THE ARCHITECTURAL AND SITE APPROVAL COMMITTEE
OF THE CITY OF CUPERTINO DENYING MODIFICATION TO
THE APPROVED PLANNED DEVELOPMENT SIGN PROGRAM FOR
INCORPORATION OF AN ELECTRONIC READERBOARD INTO A
FREESTANDING SIGN FOR A SPORTING GOODS RETAIL
DEVELOPMENT.
PROPERTY OWNER: Eldon R. Hoffman
APPLICANT: Any Mountain, Ltd. (Eldon R. Hoffman)
ADDRESS: 10495 North De Anza Boulevard, Cupertino, California 95014
LOCATION OF PROPERTY: Southwest corner of the intersection of De Anza Boulevard
and Mariani Avenue.
FINDINGS:
The Architectural and Site Approval Committee finds as follows with respect
to this application:
1. That the sign concept approved per Exhibit F 1st Revision on
October 20, 1977 by action of this Committee is adequate
identity for the subject business.
2. The primary sign should be the name of the business with
secondary messages being smaller. In the present case,
the secondary signing (that is, the electronic readerboard)
is larger than the business name.
3. The business is adequately identified by the existing architectural
concept of the building; the proposed modification would violate the
basic purpose of the Sign Ordinance which is to identify businesses
rather than to advertise them.
