MEETING HELD IN 'IME CONFERENCE ROOM 160 - 170 AT TEMPORARY CITY HALL AT 10430 S. DE ANZA BLVD., CTJPERTINO, CALIFORNIA. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Vice -Chairwoman Jackson who led the pledge of allegiance. Retail center located at the southwest corner of De Anza Boulevard and McClellan Road at 10528 S. De Anza Boulevard. APPROVED PER ASAC RESOLUTION 1278 ITEM 2) APPLICATION ASAC 51,716.1 -- APPLE CCHP[7IERS (AMERICAN NEON): Requesting approval of a sign program for an office building located on the west side of De Anza Boulevard, approximately 200 feet south of Mariani Drive. 10431 S. APPROVED PER ASAC RESOLUTION 1279 TIT 7) APPLICATION ASAC 51,713.1 -- BARCLAY'S BANK: Requesting approval of an exterior color change for an existing bank located on the east side of De Anza Boulevard, approximately 435 feet south of Stevens Creek Boulevard. 10100 S. APPROVED PER ASAC RESOLUTION 1281 ASAC SMIARY MINUFES -- REM AR MEETING OF JUNE 8, 1987 PAGE -2- ITEM 1, 2 & 7 -- CONTINUED DECISION: H �� •• • •• X171• ru. rl • • •1 siwi INFORMAL REVIEW OF USE PERMIT APPLICATION ITEM 3) APPLICATION- 21U-87 -- RAYMOND O' FLAHERF (VICTOR M %NDE LT AA) : Requesting approval of a use permit to construct a 2400 square foot addition to an existing cocktail lounge/eating establishment located on the south side of Stevens Creek Boulevard approximately 600 feet west of Blaney Avenue. (Adobe Inn) DISCUSSION: Mr. Tsuda summarized staff's concerns with the application. Members Nobel and Chapman stated that they preferred the curved entry driveway aisle proposed by the applicant. They agreed with staff's other comments. Vi Jackson strongly supported the 50 foot wide landscape setback required by the Stevens Creek Conceptual Zoning Plan. ITEK 4) APPLICATION 22-U-87 -- TANDEM Cam: Requesting approval of a use permit to allow modifications to existing industrial facilities including expansion at an existing industrial building, construction of a recreation building, and installation of site, landscaping, parking and creek modifications. Located generally at the northwest corner of Highway 280 and Tantau Avenue. PRESENTATION: Ken Kay, Landscape Architect Brian Cooper, Architect DISCUSSION: Mr Kay and Mr. Cooper described the improvements contained within the use permit application. Member Miller questioned the applicants on the scheduling of the improvements. Mr. Cooper stated the the site improvements would be acccstplished first and the recreation building would follow. The flood control channel improvement is a long-term project. Member Chapman believed the creek modifications would be an asset the City and would attract people to the future Marriott's hotel if the creek were open to the public. Site located on the south of Stevens Creek Boulevard approximately 1400 feet west of De Anza Boulevard. PRESENITATION: Mike Horton, Architect DISCUSSION: Member Chapman believed that the east side of the Marie Callendar's building was bare and needed tree screening. By consensus the Caauaittee agreed the turf area next to Marie Callendar should be modified at staff level. DECISION: •. rte• • . - �� . - r• 21 . • ITEM 6) APPLICATION ASAC 51,717.1 -- THE I1NTRABECKI GRUP: Requesting formal approval of a new ground sign for an existing office building located at the northwest corner of Miller Avenue and Richwood Drive. 10055 Miller Avenue. PRESENTATION: John Kontrabecki, Applicant Steve Mason, Applicant DISCUSSION: Mr. Kontrabecki stated that the tenants asked for tenant names on the ground sign to provide street identification. Mr. Mason stated that the Planned Development zone allows the Ccamnittee to approve waive the three tenant names limitation specified in the ccm rcial signage guidelines. Mr. Tsuda stated that the Committee typically does not approve more than four tenant names. The consensus of the Committee was to limit the number of tenant names to four. ASAC SUNK RY MINUTES -- REGULAR MEETING OF JUNE 8, 1987 PAGE -4- ITEM 8) APPLICATION ASAC 51,715.1 -- ATLANTIC FINANCIAL (VA= VILLAGE): Requesting approval of a second tenant wall sign for a tenant within the Vailco Village Shopping Center at 10851 Wolfe Road PRESENTATION: Wade McClure, Sign Representative DISCUSSION: Mr. McClure stated that the bank has two entrances and needs signs on both sides so patrons can identify the bank from either direction. Member Nobel pointed out that the bank will have a sign on the ground sign; therefore, the additional sign is not necessary. Member Miller stated that the signs had already been installed and appeared to be a clear case of oversignage DECISION: BY A VOTE OF 4-0, ITTEE DENIED APPLICATION ASAC 51, 715.1 AOOORDING TO 'IBE FINDINGS CONTAINED WI'IiI1TI ASAC RESOLUTION 1282. ITEM 9) APPLICATION ASAC 51,718.1 -- SENOR PEPE'S (OAKS SHOPPING CENTER): Requesting approval of a ground sign for an existing restaurant within the Oaks Shopping Center located at the northwest corner of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Mary Avenue. 21275 Stevens Creek Boulevard. PRESENTATION: Bruce Detweiler, Oaks Center Management Patricia Argente, Applicant DISCUSSION: Mr. Detweiler explained that Senor Pepe's has no frontage along Stevens Creek Boulevard, thus, it was difficult to find the restaurant. Also, the restaurant could not attract drive by customers. Vice -Chairwoman Jackson stated that the proposed sign did not reflect the upscale orientation of the center. She was supportive of revising the center ground sign to include tenant names. Ms. Argente explained that signage along Stevens Creek Boulevard is essential because people are continually stating that they were unaware of the restaurant. Member Chapman stated that the sign was inconsistent with the character of the center and indicated he felt a new center sign with tenant names could be tastefully designed. Saratoga -Sunnyvale Road and Prospect Road. TIT12) APPLICATION ASAC 51,721.1 -- CfiEV N U.S.A. Requesting approval to construct a new ground sign and retain an existing price sign for an existing service station located at the southwest corner of Stevens Creek Boulevard and De Anza Boulevard. AS THE APPLICANT WAS NOT PRESENT, 'IfiE CU1MITmE CONTINUED APPLICATIONS ASAC 51,719.1 AND 51,721.1 TO THE MEETING OF JUNE 22, 1987. ITEM 13) APPLICATION 8-Z-86 -- DAR -EN SHU Requesting formal approval of site, architectural, and landscaping plan for a 3 unit condominium project located on the east side of Blaney Avenue, approximately 250 feet north of Beekman Place. PRESENTATION: Der- Shu, Applicant DISCUSSION: Staff briefed the Committee on the major issues and the background of the application. Mr. Shu stated that he attempted to minimize the number of second story windows which overlook the apartments. Also, he utilized stucco siding to match the exterior material of the existing structure. Vi Jackson questioned the applicant on the color palette. Mr. Shu explained that the colors would be off-white for the stucco and brawn for the trim and doors. Vi Jackson noted that staff suggested two condition which modified the site design. Mr. Shu stated that he had no concerns with staff's conditions. The consensus of the Ccatunittee was that stucco was an acceptable exterior material and that existing trees along the eastern property line would screen second story views into the apartments.
