------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Member Gong noted that the letter spacing had been increased considerably on the
revised exhibit. He felt that 24 inch letters would look too large on the fascia. In
response to a question from Members Gong and Baca, Staff confirmed that the
revised sign was within the maximum sign area.
The applicant presented full scale drawings of the sign lettering. He felt that the larger
lettering looked better given the amount of fascia area.
DECISION:
BY A VOTE OF 3-2 WITH MEMBERS BACA AND MILLER DISSENTING, THE
COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE APPLICATION ASAC 51,750.1 ALLOWING
THE BLACK TRIM CAP ONLY. THE APPLICATION WAS APPROVED ACCORDING

PRESENTATION: Craig Maynard, Cal Neon Signs
DISCUSSION:
Mr. Maynard expressed his support for ASAC's decision on the Divani Contemporary
Furniture application. Member Gong asked Mr. Maynard the reason for the angled
lettering. Mr. Maynard stated that the angle was purely for aesthetics.
Staff informed the Committee that the exception from the sign program was
necessary because conditions require the letters to be mounted 2'-3" from the
bottom of the sign area. Mr. Maynard noted that the angled letter configuration still
conforms to the 18" inch maximum letter height.

DISCUSSION:
Mr. Stark made a presentation on the final building colors. He stated that the
developers are trying to create a fresh, new gateway to the City by using the
proposed colors. Member Gong expressed concern that the colors would conflict
with the adjacent development. Chairwoman Mann felt that the colors should have
more tan and less pink.
By consensus the Committee approved that colors as submitted.
ITEM 12) APPLICATION 9-U-87 -- YAMAOKA DEVELOPMENT. INC.:
Requesting informal approval of a final landscape plan for a shopping center at the
northeast corner of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Portal Avenue.
Staff described the revision to the plan that occurred subsequent to the previous
ASAC approval. The Committee had no concerns.

AMERICAN SHOPPING CENTER):
Requesting approval of a modification to an existing ground sign for a shopping
center located at the northwest corner of of Bollinger Road and Blaney Avenue.
ESENTATION: Allen Lin, Sign Representative
DISCUSSION:
Mr. Lin described the proposed sign modification. Staff stated that the sign slightly
exceeded Sign Ordnance standards in terms of height and size. A previous
Committee, however, approved the sign, removing its non -conforming status. Staff
clarified the proposed colors on the sign.
Member Miller noted that the landscaping around the sign was very sparse. He
suggested a condition requiring the property owner to plant shrubs in the planter
prior to issuance of building permit. He felt that shrubs would soften the appearance
of the sign. The Committee concurred with Member Miller
DECISION:
BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE COMMITTEE APPROVED APPLICATION ASAC
51,756.1 PER THE FINDINGS AND CONDITIONS CONTAINED WITHIN ASAC
RESOLUTION NO. 1344.
•
BY UNANIMOUS VOTE, THE COMMITTEE CANCELLED THE MEETING.
