Timeline •Applications open now! •Applications due Friday, March 27 at 4 p.m. •Interviews scheduled in early April •Program runs from June 10 to August 7 •cupertino.gov/teenvolunteer Teen Commission Meeting March 11, 2026 Presentations Item #2 California Association of Youth Commissions Presentation California Association of Youth Commissions (CAYC) Anya Dalal Co-Founder and Chair California Association of Youth Commissions Cupertino Teen Commission Meeting Wednesday, March 11, 2026 CAYC Pioneering organization dedicated to uniting youth commissions across California to: ○share best practices ○collaborate on initiatives ○enhance the well-being of young people in their communities While youth commissions exist nationwide and some states have state-level commissions, CAYC is the first statewide consortium of local youth commissions in the US! The organization leverages the deep, grassroots insights of local commissions to inform and drive policy recommendations. CAYC Mission and Goals ●Empower Youth, Shape the Future: ○CAYC seeks to be a powerful collective voice influencing legislation to benefit youth. ○Together, local youth commissions can share resources, best practices, and support one another in their efforts to empower young people. ●Advocacy and Support: ○A key goal is to understand and address disparities among youth commissions. ○Many towns in California lack youth commissions due to limited funding, higher poverty rates, and reduced access to educational and recreational programs. ○By identifying these barriers, CAYC aims to develop strategies to encourage the formation and sustainability of youth commissions across all communities. Teen Commission Meeting March 11, 2026 Presentations Item #5 Pizza and Politics March 11, 2026 Teen Commission Parks and Recreation Department Pizza and Politics Agenda •Overview of Pizza and Politics •Past Segments •Pizza and Politics 2026 Overview of Pizza and Politics •Launched in 2016 as a joint teen civic engagement event between Cupertino and Saratoga, later joined by Campbell •Bi-annual event timed to coincide with election season •Designed to get teens engaged civically while offering free pizza •Activities include interactive discussions, mock debates, and Q&A sessions Pizza and Politics Past Segments •Continues to provide hands-on civic learning opportunities for teens •Past event segments include: •Mayor’s/Teen Commissioner’s Roundtable •FUHSD Board of Trustees Panel •Teen Debate Looking Ahead –Pizza and Politics 2026 •Planning for Cupertino to potentially run the event solo this year •Feedback from teen commission: •What topics, segments, or activities would you like to see? •How can we make the event more engaging and relevant? Teen Commission Meeting March 11, 2026 Presentations Item #6 Splash Bash/Summer Kickoff March 11, 2026 Teen Commission Parks and Recreation Department Splash Bash / Summer Kickoff Agenda •Overview of Splash Bash / Summer Kickoff •Discussion Overview of Splash Bash •Launched in Summer 2023 as Summer Kickoff •Designed to celebrate the end of the school year and start of summer •Featured lawn games like Giant Connect 4, Inflatable Archery, and Volleyball •Activities included a Super Smash Bros. gaming station and Kona Ice for participants Overview of Splash Bash contd. •Rebranded in 2024 to highlight the new water balloon fight •Added Inflatable Archery and an Inflatable Obstacle Course •Expanded activities made the event even more interactive and high-energy Splash Bash 2026 •Looking ahead •June 7, 2026 •What’s next for Splash Bash? •How can we reach more teens?
