MEETING AGENDA ITEM.
Dear Mayor Moore, Vice Mayor Chao, Councilmembers and Staff,
This is late to be sending questions but I hope your discussion can include answers to these
questions. The 36% increase is driven primarily by several factors.
One is the “Change in Productive Hours Assumption”. It went from 1,820 hours down to
1,634 hours. This is a 186 hour reduction in productivity! This is equivalent to 4.65 40-hour
weeks, which is over a month!
Q1: Why is over a month per deputy no longer productive?
Q2: Is this an overhead charge?
Another factor is the “expanded inclusion of Indirect and Countywide Overhead Costs”. As
the county grows, its overhead will grow but the number of deputies we hire remains constant.
Q3: Are the 3 West Valley Cities subsidizing the County’s growing needs?
Q4: Are we paying twice for overhead i.e. this charge along with a month loss of
productivity?
Q5: Has or will the Cities receive an exact breakdown of the charges and how they are
calculated?
Q6: What are the next steps?
Sincerely,
Peggy Griffin
