NORTH OF STEVENS CREEK BOULEVARD (APPLICATION 12-U-82). The Committee makes the above recommendation for the following reasons: 1. The building needs to be set back from the street per the original six -story proposal. This is important so that the block does not have a "strip" appearance. 2. The perceived impact of the six -story building placed off the street would be less than that of the four-story building placed on the street. 3. It would be highly desireable to have the building placed back in the middle of the asphalt so as to break up the mass of area there. 4. The six -story height would make a very pleasant "signature" to the corner. In other words, the additional height helps emphasize the importance of the corner without it being rammed down anybody's throat. 5. There are no residential areas that are affected. 6. In the original concept, the two buildings worked very much as a complex and the negative space between the two was visually very important. 7. It's an "A" solution in an "A" location. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PASSED AND ADOPTED this 24th day of January, 1983, at a regular meeting of the Architectural and Site Approval Committee, City of Cupertino, State of California, by the following roll call vote: AYES: Committee Members: Morrison, Rooker and Chairperson Nobel NAYS: " " None ABSTAIN: " " Higdon ABSENT: " Miller ATTEST: Sonia Binnendyk Planner I APPROVED: De ora Nobel, Chairperson Architectural and Site Approval Committee
