RESOLUTION NO. 976
OF THE ARCHITECTURAL AND SITE APPROVAL
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDING DENIAL OF A REQUEST
TO INSTALL STEEL BOLLARDS ALONG THE SOUTHERLY
PERIMETER OF THE KEY CHEVROLET SITE.
PROPERTY OWNER: Paul Weiss
APPLICANT: Paul Weiss
ADDRESS: 20955 Stevens Creek Boulevard, Cupertino, California 95014
LOCATION OF PROPERTY: Northeast corner of Stelling Road and Stevens Creek Boulevard.
FINDINGS:
The Architectural and Site Approval Committee finds as follows with respect
to this application:
1. ASAC Resolution No. 975 is rendered void and is superceded by Resolution
No. 976.
2. The applicant's security needs require a barrier around the perimeter of this
site. However, the specific design solution proposed at this time is
inconsistent with the City's aesthetic standards for major boulevards.
3. Aesthetic standards can be compatible with the objective of providing vehicular
security. General barrier design guidelines established. by ASAC include the
following elements:
a. Minimum -maximum overall height: 24 in. - 36 in.
b. Maximum spacing of barriers: 5 ft.
c. If posts are used, locate them a minimum of 2 ft. behind the public sidewalk.
If a raised planter box or similar idea is used, there are no such setback
restrictions.
d. If posts are used, the quality of and character of materials must be high
(ex. heavy timber, brown or dark green colors, etc.)
e. If posts are used, they must be incorporated into a landscape theme that
softens the appearance of said posts. The term "landscaping" is abstract
and can denote a variety of materials. Posts alone will not be acceptable.
f. Any design proposal must be presented to the Architectural and Site Approval
Committee for review.
