Flood Safety Tips to Prepare You and Your Family ....................................................................................................................................................................... . Residents along creeks are the most susceptible to floods, especially those properties in known flood hazard zones. Cupertino has experienced floods in the past and certain properties within Cupertino have received damage due to flooding. Cupertino is not immune to climate change, so it's important to prepare for floods and other extreme weather conditions in order to protect and ensure the safety of your family. Prepare a family emergency plan and emergency kit for your home and your car. Have an evacuation route to high 2 ground to avoid floodwaters and designate a safe meeting spot for your family. Sign up for AlertSCC, Santa Clara County's emergency notification system and download ReadySCC, an emergency preparedness app. Register here alertscc.com. Know the locations of your neigh- 4 borhood streams and drainage channels. Monitor streams with the water district's Flood Watch Tool: https://gis.valleywater.org/SCVWD Floodwatch. Don't walk or drive in flooded areas. Six inches of moving water can make you fall; and a foot of water will cause vehicles to float away. To report a spill, dumping or blockage in storm drains which can 6result in localized street flooding, call (408) 777-3269 or (408) 299- 2507 (after hours). You can also call the local floodplain manager at (408) 777-3354. The Cupertino Service Center located at 10555 Mary Avenue, provides sandbags to residents free of charge. For a list of addi- tional locations and tips on proper sandbag usage, including addi- tional safety tips for your home, visit valleywater.org/floodready.
