WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino wishes to recognize the leadership of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce in forming an Asian American Business Council to promote, strengthen and enhance
the inter-ethnic business environment in the community; and
WHEREAS, along with the Chamber, the city believes that Cupertino is one community—regardless of race, religion, age or gender—that is globally recognized for its quality of life and
for its partnerships with education, business and government; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cupertino supports and appreciates its own diverse population, and actively encourages participation in multicultural events, both within the city and outside its
limits, as a way to gain understanding and tolerance for all people of the world; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the Asian American Business Council of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce be recognized for its efforts to promote good business relationships within our city;
Now, therefore, I, Mayor Sandra James, and the Cupertino City Council, do hereby proclaim Jan. 24, 2001 to Feb. 11, 2002 as
The Year of the Serpent
and urge all citizens to mark the date of Feb. 2, 2001, as a day to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this 2nd day of February 2001.
