WHEREAS, The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services has declared the month of April to be California Earthquake Preparedness Month; and
WHEREAS, We acknowledge that Cupertino is seismically active and recognize that the potential for a major earthquake is ever present; and
WHEREAS, We understand that failing to prepare for earthquakes can result in the loss of life and property but that preparing for earthquakes can significantly reduce these losses; and
WHEREAS, We believe that education and preparedness are the keys to a safe community and offer many levels of life safety training to our residents.
NOW, therefore, be it resolved, that Mayor Sandra James, and the Cupertino City Council, do hereby support
California’s “Ready to Ride it Out” campaign
and encourages all residents to take the necesarry steps to be prepared for the next earthquake.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Cupertino to be affixed this Friday, March Thirty, Two Thousand and One.
